SVCD does not always play on computer

I am using the guid for DVD2SVCD, using CCE 2.5. Works great on my standalone DVD player. Some of the SVCD's play just fine on my computer, some play, but are really jsrky, and some do not play at all. I get the imfamous 890020003 DVD might be damaged as to inhibit playback error with Power DVD. I don't change any settings, but I have experimented with using Smartripper, Vstrip and DVD2SVCD's internal routines, but I still get the same result. I just don't understand why some of my disks play fine, and some don't!
Has anybody else run into this?
Thanks for your time.

Power DVD isn't a great SVCD player (good for VCDs & DVDs, but not SVCDs). WinDVD is much better for SVCDs lol. Mixed bag of goodies (can't have both I guess).
Anyhow, hope that helps you out (guess you just have to find another SVCD player out there).

I never knew that. I always thought Power DVD and WinDVD were both good for playing SVCD's I will give WinDVD a try. What's curious about this is if I extract the mpg with ISO Busters or Dat2Mpg, I can play the file with both PowerDVD and even Media Player. When encoding the original with DVD2SVCD, I create an image. I'm wondering if my problem is with Nero writing the image file?

possibly. Could be a setting incorrect somewhere in nero or that it just is writing poorly (which version of Nero you using?).
I would recommend using Nero 5551/5564/5569 (even 5572). Any others might have some problems (still testing 5580 & stay away from 5582).

Well, ain't that a kick in the teeth, because can you guess what version of Nero I am running? 5582!! I went through all my DVD2SVCD settings again, and I can't find any reason why the image won't play when burned. I think I will try an earlier version of Nero, plus dust off one of my older versions of CDRWIN to see if that works. Either way, I know I am ok because I can always extract from the image using VCD Gear then burn the mpg, but that defeats the purpose of creating the image in the first place. I will let you know how an earlier version works
Thanks

lol, ya can be a real pain. I hope you have better luck with other versions of Nero (but those versions listed are the best ones).
We all hope that v6 will be a nice bug free perfect version, but appears as though almost all new apps are going down hill further.
Anyhow, best of luck!

I to have had the problem with Nero not playing on the PC when burnt with Nero. I have version 5.5.5.1 which has been great for VCD's but now with SVCD's,, I'm not so sure. I now make an Image in DVD2SVCD using VCDXBuild and burn out with CDRWin ver 3.8f and it works everytime and fixes FF and FRewind probs I've had with my DVD Player as well.

Stick with making an image rather than a straight mpg file, then burn with CDRWin. If you need to check the *.BIN file first before burning (always a good idea ) then I open the BIN file with Isobuster and save the MPG file out (done in a few seconds) and ALWAYS playback with WinDVD.

I was going to load CDRWIN 4.0a, when I found CDMate 2.25 that I downloaded but never tried. I used this as an excuse to give it a try. I am going to use DVD2SVCD tonight and burn the image with CDMate and see how it works. If it burns the image ok, I guess keeping Nero really isn't necessary, since I guess CD Mate does everything Nero does, except make VCD's. Then I need to find something to make my VCD's
Thanks for your time!

Well now I know there is a problem with Nero, at least 5.5.8.2. I made anothefr image using DVD2SVCD, but this time burned it with CDMATE 2.2.5. Works great on both my stand alone DVD player and my computer using Power DVD. I tried to burn the same images with NTI CD Maker pro, but it did not like the size of the images. I will keep experienting with it, because it seems NTI CD Maker pro is just as versitle as Nero.
Thanks
