Suddenly doesn't like Memorex??

I have a Lite-On 52x24x52 which has been working great.. Until now. Well actually this is a very odd thing.. After burning a whole bunch of audio cd's on my Memorex 40X cd's, my Memorex 48X cd's refuse to work on my drive. I'm in hopes that my drive just suddenly hates Memorex and not other brands, but still... the 48X cdr's were burning just fine until I used up all of my 40X except for 1.. I used it and it worked fine.. Can cd burners just suddenly stop working with certain brands of CD's??

I also attempted an over burn test on the 48X cd's and Nero couldn't recognize the dye.. However it could recognize the dye on the 40X cd's.. Weird huh?? It's too bad I'm completely out of 40X cd's to do more extensive tests. I did do a multi session on one of my 40X and it worked fine.. Tried that with a 48X and the drive just went mental again. This does have me a bit worried and I have no way of getting anymore 48X cd's until this weekend. I'll definatly try another brand and pray they work.. If they do, then I have a stack of about 90 Memorex cdr's I can't use..

I've pretty much determined that my CD burner is toast. Well not entirely. CDRW's work good, but still having problems with CDR's. I tried to do a multi-session on a 48X cd... I think the brandname is Hyper-Media.. Well anyway it took 5 minutes to burn 2 mp3's to it.. It got half way through the process and just quit.. The light went out which is odd.. Not even the overburn light kicked in.. A minute or two later it kicked back in.

Unfortunatly Best Buy's rule is you must return a product with in 30 days, but I've had this thing over a month. However lucky for me my best friend bought exactly the same CD burner, so maybe I can exchange it on his receipt. :p

Why don't you swap your burner in your friend's computer? That is a way to check it before you return it.A firmware update sometimes cures media problems too.;)

Memorex 40x CDR and Memorex 48x CDR's are not necesarily made by the same company and can be very different CDR's. Check the manuf & dye type with CDR Identifyer or most of the newer burning programs.
