Strange Rip Problem

All of a sudden my excellent LiteOn 163 will only rip at max of 1.6X when using DVD Decrypter & SmartRipper, I've tried several films stays the same.

Now somebody over at the CDRom-guide forums has pointed out that they have had the same problem, pinned it down to installing DVD X Copy. Some of the drivers it installs has this nasty affect it seems. And guess what I installed yesterday to try out!!! :(

So has anyone else experienced this problem? I've been told a clean install of my O/S is the only answer to this but that seems a bit severe right now. But I cannot carry on ripping at 1.6X, films are taking the best part of an hour to rip!!! (Obvious things like DMA etc checked of course)

Tried that m8, even cleaned up the registry after with jv 16 PT. Still no good, the strange thing is (And if it is a software related problem this makes no sense to me) I run a dual boot of XP & W2K, so I though if I boot into W2K where I have no DVD soft only SmartRipper installed on that partition and rip that things should be fine again. Nope, exactly the same 1.6X max rip speed!

Maybe it is a hardware problem with my LiteOn, I'll try a new 166 S later and see if that cures it. But (And I have no idea how good at ripping it is) I tried the A05 to rip last night and that could only acheive a max speed of 2X too! I'm sure it should be a lot better than that. :(

Laz...I'm using the original DVdXcopy version. My Liteon 163 rips fine still, usuallly between 8-12X.

Maybe a messed up Aspi layer??Doubt if anything is wrong with the dvdrom drive.Make sure DMA is still enabled.

The A05 is slow at ripping,2X seems right..;)

I have similar results to woody.
I'd try reinstalling decryptor and or checking what I/O interface u are using.
tools/settings in decryptor.

ao5 will only rip 2.1 max

the liteon will obviously rip original dvds slower than dvd-rs but u should be getting around 6x or so at least.

It seems more like a hardware problem tho.
I cant see how the installation of a driver can interfere with a different os on a seperate partition. (unless u have shared program files and the problem is there)

Yep, seems that theory about DVD X was cr@p guys, well for me anyway.

I swaped the 163 for a new 166S last night and all is fine, read Windtalkers at between 6-8.5 X. Nice! :)

Thx for all your input! ;)
