Spliter

I have just ripped the movie any given sunday from dvd with smart ripper and have converted the file with dvd2svcd and want to put it on to cd.

The problem that I have is the first part of the movie is to big and won't fit on to one disk. I am using the new nero 5.5.9.0 (full version). is there a program that i can get that will allow me to put both halfs of the movie together and then cut it into two equal parts so that i can burn it to disk?

Or if there is another way please let me know!

I suggest you upgrade your DVD2SVCD to the latest version 1.1.0 (from http://www.dvd2svcd.org/ ) as it has no problems cutting correctly.

In the folder where DVD2SVCD saved all its files, there should be 2 files, Encoded_audio_1.mp2 and a file similar to Encoded_Video_CCE_PAL.mpv Mux these together with bbMPEG ( avi2mpeg2 in the bbMPEG folder in DVD2SVCD folder)
Run avi2mpeg2, click start encoding, then click settings. Enter 795 in the MAX file size box (for an 80 min CDR), then in Input and Output Files, for Open PS enter a name you wish to save as (eg AnyGivenSunday.mpg ), for Open VS, select the Encoded_Video_CCE_PAL.mpv and for Open AS 1, select the Encoded_audio_1.mp2 file. In the Program Stream Settings, select SVCD. Then hit OK and finally Start. Soom you will ahve 2 MPG files that will fit to a CD. If not for some reason, decrease the 795 to 793 and try again.

Thanks Chickenman, you are always there for me!

I thought that I had the latest version of dvd2svcd but looks like I don't.

Tell me this if I do download the new program is all the settings that you created and that I added to the program still going to work or do I have to do it all over again.

Is it still the same format as the build 3 1.0.9

Yep will work the same as before, just a couple of minor menu changes, lots of bug fixes and a few new features. All your previous setting will work exactly the same as before.

I just downloaded the new version but it keeps say can't unzip file is corrupt, I tried a few different mirror sites and got the same thing. Any ideas? Do I need to uninstall the other one first or does it upgrade?

The file is fine and unzips fine with WinZip. You must have a problem with Firewall or download manager or similar.

When it does work for you, just run it and it will update/over write your existing version.

I had to download the program from doom9 and it works great, so if you are right now Chickenman I should be able to reencode the movie and it will split up on to the right amount of cd's need when I go to burn I'll let you know how it goes once I have tried the new dvd2svcd!

Ok Chickenman I had the same problem with this version of DVD2SVCD as I did with the last. I read that if I turned off the over burn it would go onto the disk I did this and it worked I don't even think I missed any of the movie.

The white paper that I got on the overburn said that it can cause damage to the cd burner, can you tell me why and what would happen if this practice was to continue.

Hmm... strange indead  Then I would suggest in the Bitrate Tab, enter 795 instead of 800 then for 80min CDR's.

I have never read anywhere where anyone has ever destoyed their burner by overburning. I thinks its just a precaution that MAY happen. The write head mechanics nows where the end of a CDR is. Its the same possition if its a 74, 80, 90 or a 99min CDR. But overburning a 74 or 80 min has to move the burning head a fraction past this outer limit. Some burners just cant do that (mechanical obstructions) hence it may get damaged. My own personal experiance shows LiteOn, Plextor and Yamaha burners have no problem overburning.

Back in the eary days of my use of DVD2SVCD, I use to get an odd rip have files to big to fit to a CDR, but normally they were only 1 or 2 seconds only over the CDR limit, so just overburn them.

Just a suggestion.
I manage to split the vob files with smartripper while ripping by setting the chapters on the first screen to give a time limit nearest to that which will fit on a cd.
No need to edit afterwards.
best regards,
