Spiderman on DVD Question

Sorry if I am not posting this in the correct place. Has anyone else experienced problems with their DVD reader (computer only) playing Spiderman the movie which was just released. My player does not see the disc at all. However it has no problem playing other movies that I own. And it works fine in my standalone player. If anybody else has experienced this problem I would like to hear from you. I was wondering if there is some kind of copy protection at work here.

Thank you in advance.

A little more info

The OS is WinXP Pro with SP1 and some hot fixes.
The DVD is a Artec 16x (inexpensive) player.
Cyberlink Power DVD v4.0 XP
Region not changed
It is an original DVD rented from Hollywood Video

No problems playing other DVD's after Spiderman.

Thanks for helping

Supossedly for the release of MIB2 & spiderman dvd's they changed to a new macrovision revision. So far i've had no problems w/ this dvd. Try the following:
1) Wipe clean the dvd surface.
2) Check for a firmware update for your hardware.

Artec DVD ROM's can not read dual layer disc's only single layer or double sided disc's can be read by this drive. You'll need to get a Lite-on or something else to read those disc's.

dual layer? what's the difference?

i was able to read and burn the spiderman dvd
Do you have an Artec DVD drive? If not, that was the reason you could read & burn it. I have one of these (Artec DVD drive) in my other system and it can't read read dual layer DVD's...hence the "low cost". There's only one fix...a new DVD drive.

no sorry, i have a toshiba dvd rom drive:) 5x though:(

i love my toshiba dvd rom 5x though, i think it's really good...

i was planning on getting a pioneer dvd rom slot drive though...

Hmm.. I have an Artec 16x DVD in my Ultra5 (Sparc), and it can read every folder except the VIDEO_TS. Have another one on order to put in my other Intel server; will check it out to see if it can read the layered DVD and let you all know.

:)

I have a AOPEN DVD drive and it also will not read/play Spiderman, this is only my secongd attempt to RIP a DVD, but it seem to be Ripping "Sum of all Fears" all right. Does this mean that there will come a time when we will have to upgrade to a better reader.
