Speed Issues

Hi I have just brought my first DVD burner the Pioneer A07 x8 speed. I have burnt a few data disks on Nero6 no problems at all but no matter what speed I set it to it always takes about 38 minutes for a full disk??? Am I missing something really stupid? My DVD burner and Hard Drive are on seperate IDE cables my processor is Athlon 1800xp and I have 250Mb of DDR RAM, how much drive space should you have if you are just burning data from the hard drive? Any help would be great.

Cheers Phade

PS also doesn't seem to read as fast as I would have expected how long should it take to read 4.7gigs worth of info?

THIS could be a problem with poor quality media :(

try using RITEK MEDIA with G04 dye layer :)

or if you are feeling brave search this forum for the link to the hacked firmware that allows other medias to burn at 8x :)

just be careful when flashing firmware it can be potentially fatal for your drive if you mess up :(

also ensure that DMA is enabled for both IDE channels/drives;

at your caching drive: the double quantum of the data you like to burn;
regular defragmantation is recommended too;
