sound problems in win xp

i got some problems with my sound under win xp. everytime i use a bit more of the cpu power, the sound of my winamp has this scratchy noise... my friend says it could be the irq settings, anyway under win9x everything worx fine...

components: pIII 700mhz, 256mb ram, midiman delta44 audiocard.

Maybe depends on what you're running with winamp, if you are loading the cpu with long and complex tasks the problem can occur, sometimes it happens to me when encoding or rendering 3d, I don't know about IRQ but if you think the problem is there try to put the card into another PCI slot
Good luck

Hey Cream
Had the same exact problem YESTERDAY. It was the audio and LAN card sharing the same IRQ in my case. Try uninstalling either one (I assume it's a Plug (Shrug) and Pray) from the device manager, reboot, change BIOS to scan PnP. It may take a few tries to separate these two. :p

Yes check for IRQ sharing. If the sound card is sharing with another device (like HD controller, SCSI, RAID, AGP Video Card, ps2, etc.) it will cause problems.

See if you can isolate the sound card to its own IRQ (in BIOS) or move the card around to another PCI slot to do the same. Many PCI slots share with other integrated devices, so consult your manual for advice. Also try the internet for your specific board and see if someone else has dealt with this problem and solved it.

If u cant change interupt settings in windows - your mobo bios might have better control over irq settings.
