Righto... it would seem i need to get a sound card. I really do not know where to start. The requirements i have for it is it has to have a jack lead socket so i can plug a guitar into it (an amp lead size socket) and a Midi in/out sockets so i can plug my keyboard in to use Cakewalk.. anyone got any links or something to help me :'( im lost :'(

If stereo is enough, then Echo MiaMidi is absolutely the best quality you can get at anything less than $400.
If you need multichannel, then an exhellent solution is M-Audio Audiophile 2496. With some money more, M-Audio also has a 192-bit model, featuring among other things a more advanced MIDI I/O (16 channels).
Terratec also makes good soundcards (Aureon series), although IMHO slightly overpriced for what they offer, and also a little bit hard to find outside Europe.
And, as a rule of a thumb: Do not touch a Creative card, even with a twenty yard pole...
