Sony DWU-14A

Hi everyone,

This is my first forum post! I am interested in buying a Sony DWU-14A DVD writer, as the features and prices for this seem to be really good, but all the reviews I have read of it so far seem to be very superficial and don't show much detail.

Does anyone have one of these drives or know if they perform as well as Sony claims it does?

Cheers

Lite On LDW-811S

Hi,

Thank you!

I was also thinking as an alternative (as its faster on both DVD+R and CD-R) to get the Lite On LDW-811S, but I'm not sure how good a brand Lite On really is, and reviews of this drive are even harder to find than the Sony!

On this note too, does anyone know of and 4x DVD+R discs that the 811S can reliably burn at 8x?

Thanks again!

Graham

@gsjudge I still don't own a DVD Burner miself.
But two close friends of mine use the Lite-on 8x or Sony DWU-14A aS to date, the user of the Sony which he has flashed to a Sony 510a has no problem burning or ripping media that they use are Ritek.. Mirror brand 4x(with the back to front Nike tick) and a few of the cheap brands to which I dont know the name or dye type...The Sony DWU-14A in it's virgin state will only rip DVD's at a max of 4x.
The Lite-on 8X once updated to the newest firmware is quite happy with Mirror 4x dvdr- Ritek dvdr- and Verbatim they did not say if it was - or + disk both very happy with their drives....
The Sony also had problems with Princo 2x DVDR - disk in it's virgin state but most drives do....
