Bought it several weeks ago, and worked just fine...

Now every time i try to burn a dvd, the program(nero, alcohol) stops after +- 10% of the burn process...
Tried different file types to burn but every time still the same message...

Could someone please help me out here

Me thinks you should give some more facts!!!!
What error message do you get?
OS?
Is it XP and do you have XP burning software shut off?
Hardware and how is it installed? (IDE's)
Burning Software Versions?
Do you have ASPI's install?
Any new programs install?
How do you burn?
Do you clean out your temp files and run scandisc and defrag once in a while?
Just a few facts so we can help you out!!!!

Thanks for the help, but when i follow the guide on uninstalling the xp drivers for burning, when i right-click on my sony drive it doesn't recognize it as as recordable drive, so i can't uncheck any boxes...

Installed the aspi drivers but still the same problem..., maybe my drive is broke?

I have two burners (CD-RW & DVD-RW) and XP doesn't see them as recordable drive but I can burn with out a problem. You should only get that tab if XP burning software is enabled other wise under My Computer you see it as DVD-R Drive (My A04), I don't remember what yours is. But if you shut off the XP burning software and installed ASPI's I would try again but try it as a test if you can. I don't believe your drive is broke.

PS: This is how to shut off XP burning software:
Nice tip for sure!Here is the path...Control panel>Administrative Tools>Component services>Local services>Imapi,double click>on the general tab>startup type,choose disabled>apply.
I stole that from one of woody's post. :D

What brand media? Some vendor's will take back the bad media and give you credit. Also you can read around the forum and see what media other members use that works with that burner and you can also try dvdrhelp.com (down now). Glad to hear you got it working.

Used Princo dvd-r - 4speed, have always used them before and worked just fine, also noticed that both the dvdr's came out of the same spindle and they both didn't work... guess that's the problem
