SONY DRU-500A and Media Issues

ok i have a sony dru-500a!
and it has a problem trying to burn to some DVD-R disks wether i use nero or record now
it jsut wont burn on them (callibration erroer or some crap!!)
but then i give theses rejects to my mate who has a A05 and the discs work just fine!!!
its really funny! some brands of DVD-R the sony will burn no problems(verbatim, pioneer, princo) but some it wont burn at all (data king) and some it will burn some but not others of the same brand(melody) but all the rejects work fine in my friends Pioneer A05( he loves it he keeps getting free discs)
can some one give me the link to the VERY LATEST FIRM WARE, i think i allready installed it, just want to make sure!!
DOES ANYONE KNOW WHATS GOING ON!!???? or is it just my SONY DRU-500A ???????

Just stay with the dvd-r brands your Sony likes......every burner has media which it doesn't like,be it a Sony,LiteOn,Pioneer or Plextor.....you have to learn to live with that.......There's NO drive that likes them all equally well, you can verify this when you use cd-checking programs like Nero's cdspeed, even if most media will work, you'll find out that different media @ the same burning speed can have totally different quality results......
I know that most people expect that a drive eats all discs........some issues can be solved by firmware, but not all...

Latest firmware is 1.0.g......

yep in the early days of CDR most burners were picky on media (& a few still are) now its the same with DVD-R things will no doubt improve but from CDR experience (I have only used one 1x DVD-R in my new 105 & they are great) U find a brand or CDR (unbranded) that works for U in your burner.
Media can be weird I was (a few days ago) halfway through a spool of white top unbranded (cheap but good CDR so I thought I had burned a few) when they changed from 80 mins to 74 mins
took me 3 CDR's to sus it.

In short find media that work for U & stick with it!!!!;):):)

I've been using the memorex dvd-r/+r media myself with no problems. been burning data, backups of my dvd's, ect. with them. i would stay away from any no-named brands unless you are sure they will work with the dru-500a. and i believe at this writing that firmware 1.0g is the latest for that drive. got any questions, mail me at butlerkevind70@hotmail.com.

I've got a DRU500A and I use the "House Brand 2x DVD-Rs" from QTCCDR. They are cheap ($0.85) and I've not made a coaster yet. I've also used the 1x Princos, 4x Riteks, Double-sided Riteks, and Imations with no problems.

I've got the DRU-500AX ive tryed about 5 diffrent types of disc
and had no trouble at all (could be i've just been lucky).

My problem with the DRU-500UL with the 1.0g firmware which makes it same as a DRU-500UXL is that I've only tried CD-R's which are fine but for some reason, the drive doesn't like my 2x CD-RW's when trying to write or format them, it keeps claiming there is a error on the disc when every other drive I have in the other machines have no problems.

Where did you buy 2X CDRW? I want some boxed, they must have great archeological value...
And of course most drives that support over 12X RW burning cannot burn at all on 1-4X RW media.

Actually, these are the ones CompUSA had on sale like a few years back that I haven't managed to finished off. The DRU-500 claims to do both 10X and 4x for CD-RW.
