Sony CRX195A1 40x12x48 Internal CD-RW Drive, $29.99 SHIPPED FREE!

Is this a good CDRW drive?

I confessing to knowing little about these things. But I have a Sony CRX100E that has been reliable for 3 years now. It's old but still going. I'm sure this CRX195A would support the more recent technologies.

Let me ask the question another way: is it good for this price?

Was down for a while...

Your 195A1 - of which not much is known, may turn out to be a 195E/E1 - a definite Liteon core - the 195A may also be one

just bought one yesterday & have a huge grin on my face. thinking of OC'ing this 195 to 48x....is it possible?

The review page for the 195 is actually

Beats me that Sony appear to be rebranding Liteons!

@ltr12101b,
this is weird.
infotool tells me that my sony 40x12x48 (crx195a1) is a crx195e4, and that the firmware is rev. s101. does anyone have information regarding this? no mention of this revision or model number is on sony's site!
by the way, the drive is a retail type (not oem). i've checked the sony195site, too. it only mentions e1. what is sony's SOP for hardware/firmware changes?
will i kill the drive if i attempt to flash it? probably so. :)

Sony CRX195A1 And CD+G (Karaoke) ?

Hello Folks,

Perchance does one know if the Sony CRX195A1 40x12x48 Internal CD-RW Drive is capable of writing CD+G (Karaoke) disks?

I have viewed the official Sony Web Site and after viewing the speciation data I was unable to determine if the Sony CRX195A1 is capable of writing CD+G’s.

In the referenced review by CDRLabs.com displays technical specifications that the Sony CRX195A1 supports the CD+G (Karaoke) format. My question is how “reliable” are the reviews by CDRLabs.com? I don’t want to purchase a CD-RW that is not capable of writing in the CD+G format.

Thanks for any information provided.

Regards,
Coaster

The CRX195E4 (according to CloneCD site as well) only has ALMOST correct EFM encoding - so unless they have deliberately crippled it, does NOT tally with it still being a Liteon based drive

That little party seems to be over!
