SmoothWall GPL 2.0 beta5, codenamed "orient", is available now!

Specifications include: 2.4.21 kernel (as of beta5), new user interface (beta0), ext3 filesystem (beta0), iptables (beta0), increased support for USB ADSL devices, including Thomson/Alcatel Speedtouch, U.S. Robotics SureConnect and Fujitsu/Westell (ECI chipset devices) (much improved in beta4).

Get it from : http://smoothwall.org/beta/

PS: SmoothWall is a best-of-breed Internet firewall/router, designed to run on commodity Intel (or compatible) PCs, and to give an easy-to-use administration interface to those using it. It's been built using open source and Free software, and is distributed under the GNU Public License, meaning you can download and install SmoothWall at no cost.
(Works even on an old 486DX / 8MB PC ! )
So, you have the ability to take an old PC and turn it into a powerful firewall/proxy-server and get rid of all these buggy software-firewalls :)

2.0 beta 6 is online!

New 2.0 beta 6 (code-name=Voyager) is available.
--Changes from beta5 "Orient":

* 2.4.22 kernel

* Use of second disk changed. Second disk now required before
install program starts if installing from floppy. This is the
loader program in action. This is cleaner than before, and gives
much more room for additional files, such as drivers.

* Core distribution updated to updated Red Hat 8.0.

* Visible response in the password fields on the setup program for
the first time(!)

* Support for BeWAN PCI ADSL card
cf. http://www.bewan.com/bewan/products/adsl/bwadslpcist.php
http://www.smoothwall.net/products/bewanadslpcist/

* Probe skip for network card detection: if you do not want the
chosen card type, you can skip. This is especially useful because
you can now choose what card you want for GREEN.

* Ping and traceroute diagnostics added to Tools section.

* H323, MMS (streaming) and Quake masquarde helper modules included.
These are from the "patch-o-matic" netfilter set.

* Portforward ranges. Forward a range to the same range, or a range
to a single port. Format is A:B.

* The https admin port is now 441 instead of 445. The motiviation
for this is that 445 is blocked by many ISPs.
