have u enabled dma?
Some people already given that suggestion - but...
Well - i have a MSI Motherboard with Intel Chipset - and running XP Pro.
I tried to look for the DMA tab on my IDE channels - but its not there.
When i run Intel Application accelerator - it says that dma not available.

Maybe i should go and buy myself a PCI IDE controller.....

i have the same dvd as u...it can also be becoz of the disc u r using...did u try on another dvd apart from asus?

Or you might try to enter your BIOS, and disable PnP OS and set the controller DMA modes from "auto" to their correct entries manually. Most modern HD's are UDMA5, and Atapi devices UDMA2.
IAA should then be able to set the correct DMA mode within Windoze.

-> Serjer : Yes - i tried on my dvd-/+r - pioneer 106. It gave the same result - until i found a hacked 107 bios that enabled fast rip speed.

-> Scarecrow : i will try your suggestion as soon as i get some sleep first, i hope that will help. My HD's should be UDMA5 - they are all new Maxtor Fuids - so i try setting my dvd's to UDMA2 and see what happens..

Actually annoying having that Intel Controller taking control over the DMA settings in hardware config...
