Hi :)

2 enable DMA on XP, go 2 device manager & select Ur Harddisk controller & then double click on the primary 1 & in the advanced tab make sure it set 2 DMA, if it not the set it 2 that & also do the same with the secondary controllers as wel, then reboot

Hope that helps:)

you didn't mentioned what sort of burning you did;
every drive on a single channel speeds up on the fly copies, but wont help (and not harm) while burning files/images from HDD to CD-R;

NEVER put a burner as slave to an Atapi device- period.
If you don't have another viable solution you can put it as slave to a HD, but NEVER to an Atapi device.

That depends on your burner. I have a Pioneer 106 (had 105 on the same channel before) as Master and Yahmaha F1 as Slave on the same U-133 channel on my Abit AT7-MAX2 m/b. The DVD burner is coasterless, as is the 44x of the F1 for CD-Rs.

DMA is UDMA2 for both ATAPI devices (my HDDs on the other U133 channel are UDMA5).

I also run HPT 374 RAID channels for 4 additional U133 HD drives.

Also, copying on the fly from CD to CD; even that works with the ATAPI burners on the same channel.

Over time I find that the limitations are:
1. The drives - who makes them --> some play well with others, some do not.
2. The m/b chipset --> I have had good results with the VIA on the newer Abit m/bs (Ultra 133).
3. The OS and Mfr's drivers. I do NOT use VIA all-in-1 drivers. Use XP's built in drivers (except for the RAID and SATA, but they do not work well for ATAPI anyway).
4. The phase of the moon. Cannot confirm this, however.

Surely you can copy on the fly with two devices connected to the same IDE channel... you will just force burnproof to activate itself several times durning the burning, and the whole procedure taking more time than doing a HD image first- plus the risk that the buffer underrun activation has created several C2-level errors on the copy. If you don't object to the abve, you may repeat it for as long as you like.
