Shutdown Problem

A little off topic this one, but can anyone offer advice.

When I shutdown my pc all seems to go off accept the power supply fan which continues to run but at a lower speed, also the pc power on indicator is still partly lit. At this point I disconnect the pc from the mains. When I plug the pc back in all the lights to the front operate and it looks like it has auto started but then it returns to the same state as mentioned above.
If I then start the pc all is well, no other faults are noted.
I wondered if I have a power supply or motherboard problem, any advice would be appreciated.

It's not a problem on your hardware... The very first versions os ATX Power Supplies become with that feature. Because ATX MoBo's have always power on it, some power supplies have that features to cool it. It isn't a problem, just a feature

Shutdown problem

Seavoices, I understand your comments concerning the cooling down feature, but even when the pc has been off for some time as soon as you plug the pc back in the fan starts. The other thing to note here is that it never used to do this, it has started over the last month or so.

You might have a short somewhere check all your power connections.Strip it down to the bare essentials and start rebuilding piece by piece.

It may be worth checking your operating system settings and your bios settings for Sleep / hibernate modes before spending any dosh on new parts.

Problem solved

Thanks to all you guys and dolls whatever. The problem was a faulty power supply leaking through voltage when powered up. New supply fitted and all is now well.

Thanks again
