Settings For DVDDecrypter

When ripping a DVD using DVDStripper, do we need to set any parameters
for DVDDecrypter beforehand or is this done automatically by the DVDStripper app?

Thanks for the help

After having done about 35 DVDs, with DVDDecrypter (3.1.6 and 3.1.7) at default, no problem on that area :)
On another thread, you will see that whatever changes you have made to it, are followed by DVDStripper

I think the short answer is that DVDStripper configures file mode for DVDDecrypter to rip by cell ID during the rip process. You shouldn't have to do any configuring of DVDDecrypter.

When using DVDDecrypter as a standalone app, the typical settings for file mode are to rip vobs into 1 gig files. That's why you have those 4-8 files that are 1 gig in size and a final file that is less than 1 gig in size.

The settings sent to DVDDecrypter by DVDStripper control a rip in file mode at the cell ID level. This is what allows DVDStripper to display the many small vob files that make up a Vob ID. Then after you have identified the cell ID files that you want removed, DVDStripper sends commands to IFOEdit to put the multiple small vob files back together in 1 gig files and update the IFOs.

What I've found is that DVDDecrypter retains the file mode settings provided by DVDStripper. So if you aren't paying attention when you use DVDDecrypter by itself in file mode, you will end up with dozens of files broken up by cell ID instead of 1 gig files. That's when you have to go back in DVDDecrypter and set up file mode to rip in 1 gig file sizes.

are you sure it changes the settings?, it doesn't seem to in mine as I just have it set to Auto, in fact all of my settings are to Default and stay that way

maybe it's just me?

Saw it happen once with an earlier version of DS so I've just made sure that I select "separate by file" under options for file mode. I know that DVDDecrypter doesn't default to ripping by cell ID so when I used DVDDecrypter on it's own and I ended up with all those files ripped by cell ID, I assumed the settings were retained from using DS.

I noticed dvddrypter used "file split = cell ID" when used with DS.

But afterwards I can open dvddecrypter alone and in "tools>settings>file mode" its still set to "split by file" and in "tools>settings>ifo mode" its to "split file by 1gb". These are dvddecrypters default settings. So DS didn't change my defaults.

I dont know how it could of happened but it definitely doesn't affect the settings in DVDDecrypter in recent versions, if at all in any version :)
