Settings for DVD camcorder capture!


I have a big problem. When I capture the video to my PC, and then save it as a Mpg or Avi, the file became so big.
I use Pinnacle PRO and DVD settings with bit rate 224kb/sec.
My files are 190Mb and 3 minutes long. And 768 pixl big.
How can I compress the file to lower and not loosing quality?
The point in saving as DVD is so I can burn it, and watch it easy in my DVD player.
But DVD films that are 2 hours are only 4Gig big, so what settings are I’m using wrong? (The settings are Pinnacles choice to save as DVD)

i cant find the guide !?

@AnetteJ.T can you give more DETAILS of what you are doing !?

are you trying to copy from video camera to computer and then put to dvd ?!

can you give details of camcorder and what media it uses either TAPE or DV or whatever media it records to :)

also give details on how you are transferring the capture to the computer cables !? capture card !? video input to graphics card !? , download to computer via composite or usb or firewire !?


please give as much information as you can and also include what version of windows you are using :)

we can help more from there :)

I capture via firewire to PC, temp save as high quality avi.
Then I edit the film, and wants to save it in lower but not bad quality mpg file. (My DVD player plays mpg)
I have a Sony DV camcorder, and no problem to capture.
I only want to have the settings that are used in a regular DVD movie.
What format and bts...

convert with either TFM (the film machine) using CCE or DVD2SVCD using CCE there are guides DVD2SVCD on the forum TFM is pretty much install and go :)

CCE is not freeware but makes a damn good quality conversion :)

you can convert to mpeg2 and then author with DVDLAB guides also here at the forum :)

Another option if you are pressed for disk space and time is to buy a cheap DVD Recorder (like a VCR) that has a Firewire port. You can then capture to a DVD-RW or +RW in MPG2 format that can be copied to your computer to manipulate or via software like TMPG DVD Author that will let you edit from the disk and author to a DVD format with menus (including motion menus).

I do this now from my Sony TRV-27 DV Camera to a Sanyo DVD recorder (also record from VHS and television). Then open DVD Author, edit, add menus, author and burn.
