Sega and Real Networks join forces

Gamers.com has learned that Sega and RealNetwork have joined forces to provide classic Sega games for download via Real's RealOne Arcade. The first four games in the venture (namely Sonic the Hedgehog, Ecco the Dolphin, Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine and Columns III) can be sampled at Real's Sega page and bought for $14.99 each for permanent addition to each user's RealOne Arcade library. With hundreds of Sega classics at their disposal, RealOne Arcade will continually add games over the course of the next year, and possibly beyond.
Mining their back-catalogue in much the same way Nintendo is reintroducing their claissic Game & Watch games on the Game Boy Advance, only via a different medium, Sega is poised to not only profit from past glories, but set the stage for future installments of the franchises. "Great games last forever and Sega.com has an extensive library of innovative and compelling content, and the powerful reach of RealOne Arcade helps us bring these great games to a whole new audience," said Scott Rubin, Director of Business Development for Sega.com, Inc. "We are excited to be working with RealNetworks to bring back games that have stood the test of time."

"RealOne Arcade provides new opportunities for the gaming industry to unlock their archives as well as a simple and compelling platform for SEGA enthusiasts to play their all-time favorite games," said Ted Woolsey, Business Development Director, Games Division, RealNetworks, Inc. "We look forward to working with Sega.com to launch additional games for the PC and provide a seamless experience for an entire new generation of gamers."

For older gamers who no longer have a Genesis in their possession, or for newer gamers interested in sampling some of Sega's past classics, this is the perfect chance to reacquaint yourself with some of gaming's greatest moments.
