Secondary IDE isn't visible

OK, The manual spoke of cable select, where is it? I see the illistration example, but what do I switch. Also this is a very big issue, After installing my new drive, It doesn't show up in "My Computer." Actually neither of my drives can be located. I checked in device manager and the secondary drive is not there! Only the master IDE and the primary IDE is there. I have both drives ( Sony DRU-500A and Optorite DD1203) connected to the secondary IDE. When I installed the new drive, I noticed that the end of the IDE cable that had the two connector option was connected to the secondary IDE. So I switched ends so the the two connector end was connecting to the dvd drives and the single connector end was connected to the IDE channel. The manual stated that the end of the cable would be the master and the middle would be the slave. I have the optorite as master and the sony as slave, only thing wrong is that the secondary IDE isn't showing up. Any HELP Please!

CHECK the back of the drive and see if the pin jumpers are set to slave or master or cable select if its set to master change it to slave :)
