I was thinking of buying a Seagate Hd and I was just asking you
guys if they are worth it .?..

I am taking a IBM back for the Seagate

But Is it wise? Is just I don't want another IBM had my time with them  and well I don't want to go back down that road

so gives your reviws on the

40Gb, 7200 rpm
Seagate Barracuda ATA IV 40Gb, 7200 rpm
Model number: ST340016A

Price (Inc. Vat) £67.50

Buy it :) You won't regret it. It's very low-noise, fairly fast and very stabile... have never had any problems with it... unlike IBM HDDs

But why don't you buy the 80GB? It doesn't cost that much extra and you'll get twice the size.

Hey ryan5262, Earlier this year I built my new desktop and put in 2 of the 40gig Seagate Barracudas that you metioned in a raid setup. I have'nt had a prob since. I was so used to the clicking of my old HDD that I was afraid that they were'nt working because their so quiet. Buy em.

ya I prefer maxtor a little more than seagate (the normal ones), but seagate is also very good (especially their SCSI drives).
I am sure you won't regret getting it over your IBM lol.

I recall when people were yelling at me saying IBM was the best & better than anything else I mentioned lol (guess they were wrong). Anyhow, I think you will enjoy the HDD.

IBM drive have most defenitely been the best up until recent times where they have had a lot of failures. I have an old 60gig IBM (2 years old) and still going like its new. My 80 gig Seagate is only a few months old and quiet and stable so far.

Thanks for all the replys most help full just did not want to buy it and find it fail on me two months later ... Like IBM

I'm with shadoe_phantom on the seagate scsi drives. Maxtors are good too: used scsi maxtors for the last two years, though I did get a 18gig Orca 10k DOA in January. Maxtor were decent about it, and because they couldn't replace it with the Orca they came up with a 36gig 10k Atlas II instead.

--Which I'll probably sell on to finance the Seagate 36gig 15k drive I got in Feb. when I was being irressponsible with the credit card. Damn Dell coupons!

Have a Barracuda as my primary master, quiet, not a sound.. ATA 100 v. nice..

Maxtors are great for price/size, but they tend to generate a fair bit of heat, no, anyone else have this?, just the Maxtors mind you.. in my old pc, as well as new, heat off the Maxtors.. need space and ventilation..

I can't wait for the Serial ATA's, Seagate might be shipping them early bundled with a card..

>>X<<

No argument about scsi hd's generating heat, but if you're gonna play with scsi, you'll have to get some mountable 51/4 inch fan brackets.
