SCVD's the playing of on a PC

Can someone help, I have a svcd movie which plays fine in my standalone dvd player but I cannot get it to play on my PC. I am using Powerdvd xp deluxe and the software keeps telling me that the disc is an unknown format. Am I missing something here, cos if the svcd disc was a problem I would not expect it to work on a standalone dvd player.
All help with this one is appreciated.

Hi Telemetry,

Try to get SthSvcd (also called SthSdvd). It works very fine with vcd's and svcd's. I posted 2 links here in the forum. I don't remember where though ! But I assume you could find them by using the search feature ;)

PowerDVD is so finiky when it comes to SVCD. As others have suggested, just use WinDVD and all will be well.

Playback quality is also the best of any player on the PC.

SVCD Player

Hi,
Telemetry

Go to _www.download.com and download Elecard MPEG 2 player.

It takes up hardly any room and is dead easy to use.

If the SVCD was not burnt properly, you get the problem your experiencing. It must be closed and burnt in DAO mode to be played on a PC.

Copy the MPG file off the CD to HD and burn as a SVCD with NERO making sure DOA is turned on and the CD is Closed.
