Satellite Broadband ?

Where I live the only access to the web is the phone line comming in at arround 49Kbps. Iam thinking about trying the
satellite broadband DIRECTWAY. Is anyone else using this service? Got any advice for me and anyone else about security
issues or any anything.
thanks

my 2 cents

i my self dont have sat broadband maybe someone else on here does but i do have direct tv sat as a cable provider every now and then signal goes weak when it rains etc.. & i cant watch tv so im sure it will happen with broadband sat. anyways here a website that might help find service around you and also there is a forum for satellite broadband users you might also try asking there _http://www.dslreports.com/ just click find service to find a service provider around you... if your not in the U.S forget about it..

if you're in the uk - try

w*w.ispreview.co.uk OR
w*w.net4nowt.com

don't know if they review / comment on satellites adsl / cable?...

i might be wrong but Satellite broadband is very expensive to set up and to subscribe to bt do it . have a look on there site for info
thats if ya in the uk

I have a friend with a Satellite and she likes the download speed, but her upload speed is only 15k :( Also when it is cloudy or raining or snowing outside, she loses connection at times.

I am the same I want broadband and it kinding going to be in my area soonish 150 people to register their interest before BT will upgrade the line.
But I was thinking of the satellite too but as it’s coming in to the winter months = More Bad weather :p so that will affect it.
I have Digital Sat and i know that goes out when it rains heavily or really windy. And I not sure if it is worth paying for it when Christmas is coming up and they are going to upgrade my area by about the start of next year. So I think I will wait the now if you want to find out how many have registered there interest in you area go here =http://www.bt.com/broadband/ and put in your number in the View the level of demand at those exchanges

well just had a look at the "veiw level of demand" for pocklington
trigger level of pr-registered people is 400.amount of people pre registered is 79.looks like me and that f***ing 56k are gonna be around for a few years yet

Are you millionare?

Apart from beïng very expensive, setup + monthly abo, ONLY your download is via satelite, your upload is alway's with the phone-line, so you will have those cost too. Furthermore the setup is only so strong as his weakest link in the chain, upload, but mainly the servers your downloading from, so if a server gives for example 5 kb/s, you never get more from it because of your satelite thingie.

If you are in their service area DIRECTWAV system uploads to the satellite at about twice the speed of a 56k modem - at least thats what their rep told me. But I have decided not to purchase because - Great news! - Were supposed to get a government grant to get broadband in approximatly 4 months. I was told it was some kind of T1 that will be beamed by radio towers.
