Had this unit for a year now and never bothered to play dvd on it until recently. It wont recognise disk. Works fine as a cdrom unit. Searched everywhere for firmware. Can anyone help.

Just a question.Did you install dvd software,such as power dvd or Windvd?It is required unless you have a hardware based decoder.

NB The flash files that are listed seem to be unavailable. Tried dowloading but keep getting 'File not found error'

Woody, Yes m8. I have tried several software bundles including Power DVD4, Win DVD and Varo DVD.

I managed to get about 5 mins of a film to play yesterday (this was accomplished through about 50 attempts of reinserting disk and resetting machine.) After this 5 mins my system just hung.
You can actually see it trying to recognise the inserted disk/s but after a few minutes, it just gives up.

Dont know if its worth a mention but I have tried the unit on both of my machines. PIII with Rage Fury128 and Athalon 1700XP with Hercules 3D Prophet 4000 XT. Even tried swapping the graphics cards on both machines.

Maybe the drive is broken and not even a firmware upgrade fixes the problem ..

Thanks for advice. I eneded up doing an extensive search using web ferret. Found latest firmware and flashed the unit. Powerdesk explorer then recognised the inserted disk but Power DVD4 did not. Installed latest WinDVD and voilla. First time.
