Hi

I some how got this RPCSS.exe on me win98se box

Don't know how it got there, maybe through windowupdate

Question is what is it, do i need it, anyway of gettin rid of it

I've blocked it in Kerio from accessin the net, but it always seems 2 be there listenin

It wouldn't let me rename it in safe mode, so i just booted 2 command prompt & renamed it 2 rpcss.old

Will i be able 2 just delete it?

strange banzi i have this file too in my c:\windows\system folder im runnin 98 SE here too and i made a backup and deleted the original with no problems

Aye, well when i tried it said the file was in use, so i tried safe mode but same thing, then i just booted 2 command prompt & renamed it that way

There was 1 prob though, after idone that, Avast resident scanner wouldn't stay on, kept disablin itself

Tried a reinstall, same thing, so i had 2 rename it back 2 the original name & now it works

Now if only i could get it 2 scan mail in Incredimail?!?!?!?

It always appears in the firewall status in Kerio

I'd still like 2 know how it got on in the first place, i know 4 a fact that file wasn't there till recently

The only other thing i have done other than windowsupdate was 2 try the MSN Messenger 6 beta & i know that put a file called loadqm which wanted 2 start at boot time

So now im back 2 square 1, im only tryin Avast out, but have hit a snag already in that it bombs Kazaalite every time unless i disable all the protection untill the prog has loaded then renable it

Never ever had this trouble with Nav2002....bah humbug lol
