Ritek will begin volume production of DVD+R DL (single-sided double-layer) discs later this month, said CEO Gordon Yeh at the company’s 2004 shareholders meeting on June 11.
Ritek will focus on DVD+R DL and 16x DVD+R/-R discs in the second half of this year in anticipation that the high technological barriers for such discs will prevent second-tier or smaller local makers from competing in the market, Yeh indicated. With the current retail price US$7-10 per disc, DVD+R DL discs can deliver gross margin of more than 50%, Yeh pointed out.
