Ripping Problem: "some files are still locked"

I tried to rip "L. A. Confidential" region 4 with Smartripper 2.40 and 2.41, DVDDecrypter 2.4x, 3.0 and 3.1
I also tried Vstrip.
All got same result: Vob 5 and 6 are locked.
I'm using Liteon 16x dvdrom. I tried Windows 2000 and 98.
I turned on and off RPC compliant.
I don't know what else to do.
Any ideas?

This is the 2nd dvd with this problem (I've ripped about 300 dvds with same system). The 1st was "From Dusk Till Dawn" region 1 Special Edition.

Please do not answer "Use Search facility and you'll find sort of thing" crap. If you know the answer or the post with it please answer. Thank you very very much.

Use the Search facility and you'll find all sort of things --- Sorry m8, couldnt help myself ! :D :D

I occasionally have same problem on my system and have concluded that they are poor made DVD's and cant be read properly anyway. I tend to get a lot better rip of these problem DVD's with my Toshiba DVD rather than my LiteOn DVD.

Also, play the movie on the PC, with say, WinDVD. Once started, move slider to about 2/3 the way through the movie (should be about VOB 5) and let it play. If it doesnt and it skips, refuse to advance forward and wont play, take the DVD back and get a better copy. If it plays okay, stop the WinDVD but dont exit and use Smartripper to rip just those 2 VOB files.

Also try turning DMA OFF so that you get a slower rip, this can also help.

Yes, I've already tried that with Windvd (I think it's the better player for this matters) and Powerdvd. It worked out with other movies but it didn't with LA Confidential.
Another player (it's a program to rip in fact) is the DVD2MPEG which sometimes unlocks vobs that Windvd can't.
I will try another dvd unit. But the best solution will be to get a copy from another region like 1. (I've tried 3 region 4 copies from 3 different stores).
Thank you very much anyway

But they would have probably all been from the same crummy batch. Trying a R1 DVD should help.
