Removing xp pro

I want to de-install xp & put back 98. Normally i would format the hdd & re-install 98, but ive been told this is not possible. Is this true?

It can be done.
You'll need an 98 or me boot disk to be able to use the "fdisk /mbr" (without quotes) command after formatting the hard drive.

Some misunderstanding- at least regarding my part? Quite possible...
Of course he can format and put back 98... what he cannot do is recalling the XP installation and getting back to 98 without a fresh install.

correct me if i'm wrong guys but if he has upgraded to xp on top of 98 then it is possible to revert back to 98 by removing xp from the add/remove box in control panel

That's what I assumed too- and I said that it's not possible, even if it appers as an option.

I did that some time ago.
But I kept fat32 at the time.
But as xp didnt recognise most of hardware/software I binned it after 4 days.
Now on win2k and I love it.

Must admit Win 98 had a few problems after removing xp.
But then again, Win 98 always has problems. ;)

Thanx for your replies. Im gonna give the formating a go. I can't stand xp its soooooo slow. With win98 i could have 2 tmpg running at the same time & still access the net, but with xp i can only have 1 tmpg running & can't do anything else on the pc. And thats without any games or music programmes i prev had on 98

I had big problems changing from WinXP back to Win98.
I F-disked and installed Win98se but my 27Gb hard disk suddenly became 510Gb and the system kept reporting a lack of space!!

In the end I downloaded and used a free program from the Maxtor site called MaxBlast 3 this works like magic. The downside is you must have at least one Maxtor Hard disk fitted.
