I will back all the above and say go for ritek g04. I use the orange grade A overprints and Datasafe branded white and never have a problem. I see you have an A07. That baby will burn -R at 8 speed. Have you tried yet. I think if you want to burn x8 you will need Verbatim discs but check before buying as these can be pricey.

Ritek is the dye type and not the brandname and are made by Ritek, nobody else.

Richo & TDK may use Ritek dye disks sometimes and put their name on them, but not necessarily all the time .... that is often the problem, as they keep changing their dyes.

Traxdata is owned by Ritek and afaik always uses Ritek dye.
TDK have their own dye type, seperate from Ritek.

When buying disks, the brand is no guarantee, it's better to look for either Ritek G03's ( 2 X ) or Ritek G04's ( 4 x ). As long as you keep away from any advertised as overprints, you won't go far wrong.

Overprints CAN be good, but some "branded overprints" may cloud the issue of what they actually are.

Overprints are "cosmetic rejects", that were misprinted the first time (or a special branded order that was cancelled), and have been reprinted with pattern which cover the original - taking a line from blankdiskshop/SVP "They will have been handled more in reprinting, and you may find some with fingerprints".

So long as the original production was competent, the handling contamination limited to the odd 1 or 2, and the dye of the type expected, overprints can be reasonable.

Basically, overprint means that the DVD's have been resold by another vendor other than the original manufacturer or original vendor.

Usually this will occur because of a fault with that particular batch of DVD's. The original manufacturer/vendor cannot sell them because there is something wrong with them. This may be DVD effecting i.e. the dye was not spread to the highest standard, or it may be something simple like the original label was incorrect or uneven etc..

It basically means that did not pass quality control for any of a number of reasons. So rather than lose the whole batch they are sold at a very cheap price to another vender who will stick their own label on it (overprint) and usually sell very cheap to us the consumer.

So, should you buy overprints? .... Well, it depends if you want to take the gamble because you will never know for sure what the original problem was.

Dont know about DVDR but I always try to have some overprint CDRs for transferring stuff & giving it away >< as stated its a matter of luck but I find them just the right price for this sort of thing.

Riteks are good, though to tell you the truth, I've had the very best luck with Optodisc. Occasionally Riteks revert to 2X on my Sony... Optos always burn correctly and at 4X.

I find Datawrite 4x Yellow to be cheap & Effective

I use Datawrite 4X Yellow that I purchased from www.mediawrite.ie. I find them to be one of the cheapest and trouble free disk on the market. I use dvd shrink in conjunction with Nero and a pioneer 107 dvd writer. It is hard to buy cheap dvd's in the computer shops in Ireland, I tend to always buy online. DVD Cases are also cheap now and its does'nt cost alot to build up a decent collection.

I`ve recently started using DATASAFE 4x DVD-R-they have to be the best I`ve EVER used. But then again,as stated by most people in this thread-no matter what brand-name you use-anything with the Ritek G04 dye rules!!!
