recycle Bin won't empty

Hi. I am running xp pro. I have never had a problem up until now. It seems out of nowhere My recycle bin showed that something was in it. This was odd since I always empty it.

I went to empty it and it said "are you sure you want to delete windows". I then stopped and decided to look inside the recycle bin but it shows nothing there?

If I tell it yes empty the bin, it goes through the motion but it stiil shows something there and it will still ask "are you sure you want to delete windows"

Has anyone else run into a problem like this? And does anyone kno how I might fix it?

Thanks
tony

Seems like WinXP hates itself and tried to delete the Windows folder.:p

Maybe is a virus or there is something broken in the registry. Try reverting back to the last good restore point.

Wondering if it has anything to do with a removeable drive. tonygunns are you using a Firewire or USB 2 external drive?? A friend of mine had a similar problem and it turned out to be a file on his USB 2 drive.

The error with Windows XP trying to delete the 'WINDOWS' folder does not have anything to do with Norton Antivirus. I have had the same problem with an IBM Thinkpad Laptop AND a DELL XPS system both which never had Norton Antivirus installed. The only (or best) way to solve this problem is to reboot your PC and the Recycling Bin is now empty (icon too). There have been no fixes that I have heard of so far, but it looks like this is yet another glich with Windows XP. Hope this helps.
