read speed only 27x

I have a Lite-On 40125s = 40x12x48 and a Optorite DD0401 DVD-CDRW.
If I run nero determine max speed from the burn menu, I only get 27x read speed off my hard drives which then says I can only burn cd's at 24x. I have 2 IBM 80gb 7200rpm ATA-100 drives, AMD xp1800 and 1 gb of ram. I have also set dma to on.
Can someone help.?

Yes its installed. I d/l the latest Nero and ran the test again and now I get 207x
a big difference from 27x. The program muct be screwed up. A bug? I ran a simulation of 700mb and it took 3 min 15 sec

So have you used and 4x DVD+rs and burn them at 8X and if you did what brand? I ask cause I just ordered this drive.:cool: Thanks

I have NOT tried 8X yet because I do NOT have the required DVD's there is a list on their site. I did burn DVD+RW at 4X using some Ritek R02's that I bought for $18 for 10. Here is a list of approved DVD media http://www.optorite.com/products.htm
I also burned a HD CDR with a Verbatium CDR but the list doesnt recommend Verbatium. I had to try several befor one would work. Here is the list of CD-R's
