Questions, Questions...

This question that I have, is for all good people of this forum.

I'm currently using Vidomi (0.469) with DivX 3 and I was wondering what would be the best settings to use If I were to encode a DVD to AVI using DivX 5.

I would also like to add that I want to fit the AVI onto one CD (even though you can ask Vidomi to set that up) and I'm not after the greatest quality in the world... Just enough to be able to watch it and say "Damn, I cant tell thats ripped!!!"

Anyways... Hit me back

Chris

follow the tutorial by CM, but there can be an issue with the file size (as vidomi doesn't always conform to what you specify). To work around this I found that instead of using DivX Networks Vidomi VBR (Two Pass) just use DivX Networks(two pass) instead.
Here depending on how long your movie is, you will set the bitrate to different numbers. Anywhere from 690-780 is good.
690 if dealing with a long movie (over 2 hours) & nomrmally 730-750 good for 1:30-2 hour movies.
Set the size of the file to fit on CD to either 680-698MB for 700MB CDs or 640-649 for those 650MB CDs (but note that the file size made can be smaller than those & even larger if bitrate is too high).
These are generally the settings I use for really good results.
Hope that helps

PS
the problem area doesn't happen all the time, but marty (guy who made vidomi) says this method works best for file size issues.
*also if you realize you can put more quality into a size, then by all means go ahead & put 920-960 bitrate (but not often the case)

Thanks for your help, but I already have the Tutorial from CM and that tells you how to use Vidomi with DivX 3.

What I'm really wanting to know is are all of the other option you find with DivX 5 really necesarry to change or can you leave them as default?

Thanks again, Ill give your method a try ;)

Thanx "shadoe_phantom"

Its not everyday you get good help ;)

I'm not sure about this though, I looked at the tutorial again & its the same as I have now. It really doesn't talk much about DivX 5 options.

Ohh well

Cheers

true. This is because the steps are the exact same for divX 3.x/4.x/5/x. The only thing you need to configure in the tutorial for any of those codecs, is when you select the codec (Video Codec Settings) & then fix the parameters for it (Set DivX Networks Codec Parameters).
Everything else just covers the details for the file conversion (not the codec itself).
I've attached a zip file with 2 images I made of these things for you.
Hope it helps.

jojomp5, seeing that you are in taiwan, please have a look at the rules & post in english only.
Do not compute/understand what you are saying.
Not a good joke if it is one (pretty lame actually).
