Questions about Lite-On

I know this topic's been exhausted, but I can't find this info.

I'm building a new computer, and from what I'm reading, I can't go wrong with Lite-On's DVD and CDRW drives. From what I remember from a few years back, Lite-On is a OEM company. What companies are actually rebadging their drives?

Hi bud.Welcome to the forum!.The majority of Cdrw drives are rebadged.Liteon does sell their drives to other companies, that do in turn rebadge them.

The major drive maufacturers are Liteon,Sanyo,Ricoh,Yamaha,Philips,Plextor,Sony.(might have missed a couple). All the rest are rebadgers.

Here is a link to an article,it is outdated however.Just fix the link.

Thanks for the welcome and info. That place is a real nice collection of info, too bad it is a little outdated.
If someone was wondering the same thing I was, I just got a peek at a Hi-Val 24x CDR, and it is a Lite-On 24102b drive.

Good information about the Hi-Val.I'll tell you the worst thing about rebadged drives. Many of them change the id string in the writer's bios. That means you need to get firmware updates through the rebadge site.I hope Hi-val left it as a Liteon in the bios string.

Another bad thing about rebadgers is they are known to change brands.Creative is notorious for this! They will start out with a rebadged 12X writer, usually a Plex. They will then change brands, 12X writers still, of course. They will replace with a cheap model like a Samsung, people think they are getting a rebadged Plextor!

I know I'm rambling on,but be careful with rebadgers!!
