QUESTION: video and sound out of sync

Hi,

I have a few avi files in which the audio and video are out of sync (the video goes real fast as if i were fast forwarding but the sound is normal) ; i thought may be it's the ripping error of the video but then i tried it on a friend's computer and it worked fine; so strange.

So does anyone know what caused this out of sync problem and how to fix it? i m not sure how to address this issue because the video works fine in one computer and not the other.

Thanks.

Did you use the same player on both computers to watch the movie? Windows Media Player is notorious for out of sync problems, suggest The Playa that comes with the DivX 5.x codec.

Do you and your friend have identical versions of the DivX codec installed, again if these differ, who knows what can happen.

thanks for your help.

Both computers use window media player; about the codecs, i think there are diff. codecs on these computers; but i still dont understand why my computer works for most avi except for may be 3-4 incidents in which the sound and video are out of sync; and i think i have the most current codec , or at least more current than my friend 's computer for sure.

BTW, which player do you suggest i should use in playing avi and mpg? the window media player came with the computer so i have been using it by default; i m kinda new to this divx thingy, so i 'd welcome any suggestiions u have.

Thanks.

If the particular DivX movie was encoded with ver 3.11 anf your mate is using 3.11 to de-code while your using 5.x, in theory both should play equaly, in practise this does not always work.

I personally use WinDVD for playback of all my DVD, VCD, SVCD and DivX files. Use the search button and look for WinDVD4. If I ever get a/v sync problems then I know its a problem of the file, not of my system.
