Question for Chickenman, about Crop

Great tutorial for DVD to DVD-R, I follow for Disc Type 3(Widescreen) but after Maestro Authoring (16:9 LB/PS selected), the size of the final movie is 720X360 (according to AVS script from DVD2svcd) , I hate those 2:3:1 movies, imagine the effect by a size smaller of the screen. I wonder if is posible insert the line of cropping in the avs script(deleting the add borders line and modifying the resize line before cce encoding)) as in your DVD to SVCD tutorial (crop for real 16:9 movies). By the way, Is Really necessary the Bicubic Resize? Can be deleted from AVS script? I did and CCE speed increases about 25 %, but the movie looks without relation aspect.

Yes you can use the croping as outlined in the SVCD tute for your DVDR. I hate those 2.3:1 also but all you have to do is hit the zoom button on your DVD Player remote and it does exactly the same as all that cropping does. Using the remote is a lot simpler for me with exactly the same quality picture.

BiCubic, most defenitely its needed, else quality will/can be severely compromised.

Thanks. About the second point, I have a Samsung MR 200 series and the zoom function sucks (2:3:1 goes to 4:3 directly), that´s the reason of my question

greetz from Mexico...

about chickenman tut just a Observation, if cropping the movie (described earlier) you need compile as 4:3 in Maestro settings or you will obtain a wrong aspect, if you are keeping the original Menus (dvd9-dvd5 full doom´s 9 guide) then use ifoedit, open the main movie IFO to put 4:3 in "Title set (movie) attributes" line. Works fine for me.

with respect to the subtitles (NTSC project), always are present a Syncout problem (refers: subrip 1.1.4 and 1.1.5), the problem is that Maestro graphics format is saved as 30 fps (and not 29.97 NTSC), to solve I Use the following form:

( A * 0.03 ) / 29.97 = B

(Time of main movie in seg.)= " A "
(difference between framerates 30-29.97)=0.03
(NTSC real framerate)=29.97
(syncout time)= B

After extract subs with subrip and before to save, open allow time/speed modifications dialog (the little watch), in time stretch/ speed adjust line tick the minus box and write the " B " valor obtained earlier, apply the correct and save your project as *.son
, voila! subtitles are in syncout,is most simple and faster that dooms´9 dvd9-dvd5 full guide explanation (pulldown twice with drop frame)

Fantastic, thanks for that. As I'm PAL here, I have little experiance with NTSC stuff. I did the double Pulldown trick only once, yes what a pain ! Doing it all in SubRip sounds the simplest solution to me but hopefully I wont need to do it for a LONG time, but I'm sure other members will.
