Question about greyed menus

I am probably being incredibly dumb, but....
in dvd stripper the tools, viewer and selection menus are greyed out.
once I rip using dvd decrypter, I have all the ripped files on my hard drive, but nothing happens with ifo edit and those menus I mentioned are greyed out....if someone would clue me in to what probably obvious thing I am doing wrong, I would appreciate it.
