Que Firewire M3 (80 gig external) , help!

Hello folks,

I have a Que Firewire M3 80 gig. I am running it through a P3 650Mhz, dell inspiron, 384 Mb Ram, Windows 2000.

The problem stared last week, all of a sudden, the diretories inside the drive seems to have dissapeared. I was able to recover most files. I reformatted the drive and was working smoothly for a week and then the same thing happened again, my files seems to have dissapeared but when i click on the properties, it shows that 30 gigs is used.

It seems like the drive re-indexes for no apparent reason. Could this be a hardware issue or software compatibility, etc???

Please help. What can i do to prevent this from happening again.

Thanks.

Kent

I've just been doing some digging around . . .

There seems to be a number of problems getting firewire drives to work properly with xp at the current moment. This is the case with a number of firewire HD brands, including your current drive.

Though the problems people experience vary. Though, people mainly have problems using the drive properly in XP. It seems to be a problem with XP more than a problem with the hardware.

Microsoft site doesnt really offer much help on this. only found the following on firewire troubleshooting.

great info , thank <more>

Thanks for the great info Shadey. I was surprised to find out that I am not the only one having problems with the ext. HD firewire interface. I called QPS about this problem. I was put on hold for nearly TWO hours (their number is not toll free by the way) and i spoke with an moron who told me that it might be an MP3 that i copied to my HD that caused the re-indexing. I really wanted to boink his head with the hard drive. I will try to reformat the drive once again, and if it fails i will try to get a replacemetn drive because it might be a hardware issue.
