Public Beta: Logitech VideoCall for broadband

Logitech invites you to download the Public Beta release of Logitech VideoCall for broadband.

This new application allows users to participate in live video calls over a broadband Internet connection.

Logitech VideoCall includes the following features:

* Real-time, two-way communication
* Drag-and-drop image sharing
* Picture-based contact lists with simple grouping features
* Contacts list automatically detects whether friends are available
* Click-and-call phone-like features
* Audio-only mode selectable by sender or receiver
* Synchronization of video and audio streams
* English only

The only things you need for Logitech VideoCall to work are:

* Intel® Pentium® III 700 Mhz or higher
* Microsoft® Windows® 98 SE, ME, 2000 or XP
* Internet Explorer® 6.0 or newer browser
* A USB webcam (see Logitech's collection)
* A PC headset (see Logitech's collection)
* Broadband internet access such as DSL, cable modem, or T1 line

About the Public Beta

The Public Beta is being made available to customers free of charge. Registration is required. Logitech expects to release a commercial version of the application in summer 2004.

This commercial version of the client will include several paid subscription options for users to choose from and is scheduled to provide support for the countries listed below. At that time, the beta release will no longer be functional, and beta users will be asked to choose a subscription method to continue use of the service. Only supported countries will be eligible for use of the final application.

Interesting - I suppose the beta will expire, or when it goes full, you'll need to pay for the server access - and how long before any online list is full of people offering to show their whatsits live on webcam - that's how the old netmeeting servers ended up!
