trying to encode an AVI to MPEG followed Chicken Man's excellent tutorial,

now I DL a two part AVI (assumed DiVX) and encoded as such

this worked fine with part one of the movie the second part however went tits up, when I encode (exact same settings) it goes all Psychedelic like a really crap encoded rip,

the thought that went through my mind was if it was a single file originally it may have been split and some header info is wrong (can you tell im new to all this)

both parts of the AVI movie are watchable in Windows and the first encoded fine and I burned it to CD with WinOnCD it works if a bit grainy, suppose this is 'cause it's a re encode of DiVX

any help appreciated, decided to watch it on my P.C. anyway as the original AVI is ok quality, just don't like leaving things half finnished especially as I will learn something in the process

Welcome to the forum and thanks for the comments.

Ther are many AVI cutting programs out there that dont chop AVI correctly. sounds liek a field order problem to me. Suggest in TMPGenc / Settings/ Advanced you cahnge Field order to Top Field First (Field A) and give that a try. Just run for 5 min and stop and check results before continuing.

this is what I see whilst trying to encode the second half of the move, I tried what you said as well as later playing around with various settings but get nowhere,

any other suggestions?

as I said plays fine in Windows

is there any way of re building back to original single file (copy /b a+b =c in dos or is this too simplistic) and then encoding and cutting the MPEG afterwards?

Thanks for the pic, corrupted data is the problem. Unfortunately you will have to download the file again.

Try running DivFix (do a search on this forum for it) and it may fix the problem.

Another is load into VirtualDUB and cut out the start bad bit and save out the rest as a new AVI.

used DivFIX although it found no errors, I stripped the index and rebuilt it, now in the middle of encoding and I can see pictures again.
