psx iso problem

hey
I've just download a psx iso.file and would like to burn it on a cd to play it in my normal console. But the thing is, when I burn it (I'm using NERO) and put it in the console, the game won't load, only the psx logo stands. I found a doc. about how to burn iso. files

"How To burn formats - .iso

1)Open Nero
2)Go to File > Burn Image
3)Where it says "Files of type" click All Files.
4)Go to where your file is, and double click on it. (EX. C:\DreamcastGames\POWER_STONE.iso)
5)Settings -
Type of image: Data Mode 1
Raw data (is UNCHECKED)
Block size (Bytes 2048
Image header (Bytes) 0
Image trailer (Bytes) 0
Scrambled (UNCHECKED)
Swapped (UNCHECKED)
6)Click OK
7)Click Write

PS- on #7 you dont have to have under Action all filled out, only
"Write" has to be checked. And the write speed can be the highest as you want (mine is 4x)s"

I did all of this but when I clicked ok, it said that there were something wrong with the block size and I could either correct or ignore.
Oh, and I also tried to extract the iso. but when extracting a message popped up saying it couldn't extract two files, so I only got three files.

My question is, was I burning it wrong or is it something wrong with the iso. Oh, and there is a mod-chip in my psx, so that can't be the problem.
Hope someone know's how this works. I thank you in advanced.

try burning with diskjuggler as an iso

or with cdmate with playstation profile selected :)

or with ALCOHOL 120% with playstation settings :)

oh oh oh...no

hey, I'm starting to wonder. Is it really possible to burn a psx. iso.file to a cd and play it on the original console or do I have to get me one of those emulators? C'mon someone gotta know this, I really don't want a emulator =/

IF its an (unchipped/modded cheat cart/orignal boot change disk assisted console) !? simple answer no thats IMPOSSIBLE !!!

Reason is that unless you own a cd pressing plant any commerical available burner simply cannot write TRACK 1 of a psx disk as this is out of bounds to the burner !

i've posted lots of links and information on this in the console section read it and the associated links for more details :)

as for the iso it needs to be burnt in whatever software basically with NO CORRECTION to the 'SUB CHANNEL DATA' as this will stop the disk woirking :(

It is quite possible that your game needs to be patched prior to burning. Read up on the subject at this website:

_http://www.psxcopyworld.com/

You will need the appropriate patch for your game and a program called ppf-o-matic to do the patching all available on the above site. They have excellent FAQs on how to back up original disks and how to patch/burn PS1 games.

What modchip do you have? To let you know, I've backed up several hundred PS1 games and they all play fine on my PS1 modded with a stealth modchip. Many came from iso files, bin/cue, nrg, CCD files, and others.

Most of them work on my PS2 also modded with a Magic 3. Some do not work since the original subchannel data was not handled correctly. That’s easy to fix though, just recopy it with the correct settings.

What game are you trying to backup anyways?

hey

wow, thanks for the help, haven't tried it yet but it looks like a smart way to go. I'm not sure what mod-chip I have. But it plays burnt games normal. I'm trying to backup vagrant story and crash bandicoot warped.
ok, I've download the ppf-o-matic and the vagrant patch. So if I'm not mistaking, I should patch the game normaly and then burn the iso. as I mentioned in my first post. well, hope that's right

you do not state what burner u are using ?! but if you are backing up your originals read both sub channel data for audio and data and when you burn DO NOT REPAIR the sub channel data and close disk (use clone cd or alcohol120%) this should work just fine for both so long as you have a burner capable of reading SUB channel data & you should not need to patch :)

Viper is right. The last pieces of the puzzle are the burner and the software you use. Most modern burners will work just fine. PSX CopyWorld has information on how to set just about every burning software there is to get it to work right.

If you are using a downloaded image of the game you own then you are at the mercy of the person who made the image. If the reader they used didn't read subchannel data then you could be in trouble. There really isnt any information as far as I know in the subchannel of PS1 games. It just has to be there. Thats why a CD that is missing subchannel data that won't boot can be re-read and burned with subchannel data and will work. Hope that makes sense.

@markbot yeah as its an .ISO then its a pretty good chance that the person who made it does not have a clue what they are doing ?! you could burn with Alcohol and not repair the subchannel data and hope it works ?!

I know you got experience in the P.S.X. field...

but.......
Thats why a CD that is missing subchannel data that won't boot can be re-read and burned with subchannel data and will work.
How are you going to put back what is not there already if this is not attempted from an original !? just a dubiously sourced download !?

With an original you can correct the mistake and read the wanted data in the subchannels when you re -read the source ....if its a download then unless you know the person that made it and can get them to re-make it !?.... then there aint a hope in hell of putting the missing sub channel data back is there !? :(

Btw the information in the subchannels is usually the LYBCRYPT protection thats why if you repair the subchannel data then the disk fails if there was nothing in them then you would not need to read both subchannel data !?

Hence the reason for reading both subs and not reparing them on burn this allows the disk to work without patching in a modded psx when you patch you are modifying the lybcrypt or disabling it as you had to do with older burners :)

:)

@Viper

I'm not a technical expert on CD standards or PSX Libcrypt copy protection, but it does work. I've done it multiple times. The trick is especially useful to play a PS1 backup on a modded PS2.

If I stick one of my old PS1 backups in my PS2 and it won't boot, all I have to do is recopy the bad disc. Using CDRWIN and my Toshiba 1402 DVD-ROM (Ollie recommended this drive to me for its subchannel features) as the reader and standard PS1 backup settings, I make a new image and reburn. I actually done this for the "public release" of the excellent PS1 game Thrillkill and re-released it so it will now play on a PS2. The community was grateful.

This issue was discovered by a friend of mine that was testing a bunch of backups when he made the switch from PS1 to PS2. My PS1 backups would play on his PS2, his PS1 backups would not. The difference was the reader. So he bought a Toshiba DVD like mine and discovered that he could fix it by recopying the "faulty" CD.

Interesting to note is that both of our backups played fine in both our modded PS1's regardless. It was when we tried them on the PS2 that we ran into a problem. The PS2 really seems to need the subchannel data "track" if I may call it that to be present.

LOL
actually done this for the "public release" of the excellent PS1 game Thrillkill and re-released it
LOL when was it released to the public :p :)

this game was abandoned by EA(electronic arts) just after it had aquired VIRGIN INTERACTIVE as it was deemed inappropriate for publishers due to the sadistic and ultra violent game content and scantily clad suggestive female characters as their reasoning of not releasing it !?

So Technically its never been released in any shape or form.....but inside sources leaked a copy onto the net and thats how its been ever since not avail commercially ;)

The game engine was sold on and 'WU TANG taste the pain' was born altho with code entry to block/allow... gore/blood/fatality style endings ;)

As far as i know its not and never has been protected with ANY protection scheme as it was NEVER released by publishers that would require it !? ;)

Anyow if recopying it works for you markbot then i aint gunna argue ;)

but i do know from experience and a whole long time involved in the past in the scene, sometimes trying to put back what aint there in the 1st place like i said above can cause major headaches and lots of nice shiney coasters as what may work for some may not work for others depending on lots of factors ;) :D

Anyhow MARKBOT bud i talk to much so lets see how he/she gets on :)

Of course you now know what kind of "public" I speak of when I speak of a "public release" in quotes. The dark underbelly of the Internet PSX scene.

Thrillkill is a very cool action game, especially for 4 players, that would be considered totally lame compaired to Grand Theft Auto Vice City nowadays.

hey

I did my best, but these things are just way to complicated for me. I think i'll go buy the original game instead. Thanks for all you help q:)
