probs with display

hi,been gettin a prob with my display recently
wat happens is zat out of nowhere,my screen start blinking,(i mean turn on n off, like there's no current/info coming from pc) ,say 1-2 times,irrespective of condition n time or simply my screen turns off,n there's no response from keyboard or pc.
another case is zat my screen turns off,has 2 reset,then i get 2 short n 1 long bips,with screen still off n have to power off pc n on new boot up,pc n display is ok.
though was due to my nvidia drivers,reinstalled them,still same situation.
i've moved from winxp 2 win2k3,with the problem still persisting
even had this prob on mandrake 10
thought was due to my tv tuner card,removed it,same situation..
i've check the graphic card connections,they r ok..
anyone can help?my prob is not on a frequent basis but is annoyin...

please recheck if your VGA card sits correct in the AGP slot; more i don't have to recommend;

if it won't help, change VGA card or monitor for testing purposes; i'm sure the problem is not software/driver related;

I also have this problem for the last 2 months -lots of flickering randomly, plus "trebling effects" when I move windows to the bottom part of the screen. Actually it's my 19" Hyundai which is about to go tits up... it does the same on my other two boxes. I checked and replaced the screen connection cable (it's detachable) with no real improvement.
Time to go for a juicy large TFT display I guess, I just have to rob one or two banks before that! ;)

checked the card,is firmly fitted in the agp slot....
also thought of hardware,but was thinking more of the card,an 'oem' geforce2 mx 2 get busted,but i've haven't made any overclocking stuff with it..
btw how would u know ur video card is asking 2 b buried?when it no longer display anything?

i would try my good old Voodoo 3 2000 in comparison; and i can borrow a TFT from my workplace;

when it no longer display anything?
could end in many results: nothing visible, PC hangs, color failure, distorted pic or blue fume; :D

Award BIOS - the code is listed at one site as "1 long, 2 short" for video adapter failure.

Check the voltages in the BIOS hardware monitoring - it may be a weak AGP voltage.

What standard is the motherboard slot? - if it's an older motherboard with an AGP 1.0 (1x/2x, 3.3v only) slot, you may have to make a careful choice of replacement - the Geforce 2MX is definitely happy in that type of slot though. Mid-range ATI cards tend to be good "universal" AGP solutions, but some (like the all in wonder versions) draw too much current for older specification AGP.

If it's an older motherboard with AGP 4x capabilty, try turning AGP 4x off in BIOS if there's an option - some older chipsets were not entirely stable in 4x mode.

PS. You're not overclocking the card, but are you overclocking the CPU? - if you raise the FSB, on many systems, it also raises the AGP clock by the same percentage - and the AGP does NOT tolerate overclocking very well.
