I dont know if im the only one with this problem or if i posted this in the correct area, but i am trying to rip Tears of the Sun region1 to make it region free. according to the software it should be region free, but when i stick it into my dvd player it shows a screen of region1 protection.

Its from my original TOTS dvd which i bought on vacation in the USA.

Can anyone help me? tnx in advance .

ps. its not possible to copy a powerdvdscreen, as it somehow shows the dvdscreen and not the screenshot....

Yes, what software are you using to rip it ?

Also, PowerDVD should have a small Camera button somewhere that allows you to screen capture and saves it to a file.

If either DVD Decrypter or SmartRipper cannot rip the DVD to your HD, then you either have a faulty/damaged DVD or your reader is poor or dying.

Try using your DVD burner as the reader, try cleaning the DVD with some alcohol and tissue, try turning DMA on or off, check your ASPI layer, etc

1st of all its a brand new dvd.
The actual ripping has been succeeded too.
According to ifoedit it didnt find region patch.
but when i use the dvd player included with ifoedit, it comes up with the screen again.
thats the problem..
maybe its more clear now.

tnx for ure time,

Thats now a bit clearer.

Both DVD Decrypter and SmartRipper rips a DVD to your HD region free, if IFOEdit player says its not then I suggest you get a decent player like WinDVD or PowerDVD.

In what version of PowerDVD have you seen a Camera button?
I can't find one in my Dell system version 4.0.13.2409.

I've ripped many dvd's without a problem now and have been able to play them all in my dvd player. I have tried for the first time to rip a dvd that comes from australia, but for some reason the ripped copy does not play in my dvd player. The error message just says that it can not play in my dvd player, but I'm sure the problem is due to this region stuff. If dvd decryptor is supposed to make it region free could it be that my dvd player is forcing the dvd player to play only dvd's from Canada (since that is where I live and purchased my dvd player)?

thanks,

The problem is not the Region, as DVD Decrypter removed that when it ripped it to your HD. The problem is Australian DVD's are PAL and yours is NTSC. Most NTSC dvd players do not play PAL dvd's, simple as that. To convert PAL to NTSC would involve a re-encode. See the DVD to DVDR Tutorial and the post at the very bottom on how to do PAL to NTSC.

I'm sorry chickenman but I'm having trouble finding the tutorial and post you're talking about. Can someone provide me a link or something?

Sorry to bug you guys again, but I can't find the info regarding PAL to NTSC conversions. That post is big and discusses mostly avi to dvd and what programs are needed. Is there not a shorter post somewhere that discusses simple PAL to NTSC conversion?

thanks,

nver mind. i see chickeman has just created a new "how to" on this very subject.
chickenman strikes again :)

hope you get sorted FURBREATH :)

the other alternative is invest in a cheap multi region switchable dvd player :)

no messy pal/ntsc conversions needed :)
