Problems with NTI CD Maker hanging

specs:
I am dual booting WInXp and Win98se; I have a TDK Velo CDRW 8x4x32x; I am using NTI CD Maker in Win 98, but I mainly use XP

problem:
about a year ago, NTI CD Maker would hang when I tried to make a data cd. The program would get to about 2% completion and just hang (no error messages, could only exit by rebooting). However, ther would be no problems when I would make an audio cd, and sometimes, seemingly randomly, when i tried again, the program would make data cds without a problem.

I tried updating my NTI software, but the same issues exist. I have since, compleletly reformated my HDD, and reinstalled everytthing, and the same hangiing problems exist.

There has not been any major changes to my system, and like I wrote, sometimes the program would hang and sometimes it would not (but usually it hangs), and other cd copy software works fine (clone cd)

Any ideas???

The easiest solution is to change your burning software, especially if its been going on for a year. Why not give nero, cd-mate,burnatonce etc a go. I've never personally liked NTI software, and the new version 6.0 has given me the odd problem - mainly burning WMA files - so it was removed.

try to update your IDE controller driver; generally they are a part of your chipset drivers; do a search at your MB fabricator's home page;

and dump any ASPI version by using KillASPI as function of ForceASPI

both NTI and CloneCD don't need an 3rd party ASPI layer;
