problems with Nero nrestore.exe utility

I purchased a CD burner a few days ago for backing up my HDD.
Nero Burning ROM software came with the drive.

I burned my CD-Rs successfully. It took 7 CD-Rs to backup my small 4.3GB HDD. Then I formatted my HDD.

Now when I try to restore my backup in DOS using
NRESTORE.EXE, I receive an error "Could not open the
messages file: nres_eng.msg".

I created my Boot floppy using Windows98 to ensure I have all
the necessary drivers as recommended. I verified that I can read (dir) my CD ROM drive.
And I see the "nres_eng.msg" file is on my backup disk.

So, I'm not sure what else to do? It seems like there may be some DOS driver
file missing from my Boot floppy, but again, I can read the CD-R disk.
I contacted Nero support, but they are not very responsive.

I would appreciate any help or direction you can provide. As you can
imagine, just about all my personal data is lost.

Regards,
bop

you need copy the nrestore.exe onto another blank floppy from the nero folder :)

The method i use is to 1st boot from my win 98SE floppy (should work with 98 too)

choose CDROM SUPPORT and when its finished loading the cdrom drivers and you reach the a: > prompt swap to the floppy with the nrestore.exe on it and type in nrestore and hit enter :)

This should launch the NRESTORE utility now you need to change to the cdrom drive that you intend to use using the cursor keys to change boxes highlight the drives list on the left and change /highlight your cdrom drive :)

Then insert disk one of your hd backup into the cdrom drive then use the arrow keys to change to the RESTORE selection on the screen hit enter when its highlighted this should begin the restore !!

Change disks when it completes the 1st disk and wait for it to spin upto speed in the drive and when the drive light goes out hit enter to continue the next disk, keep doing this each time untill you finish the last disk then when you have completed change the highlight box over to the quit box and hit enter this will promt you for a reboot this will reboot and run scandisk to complete the restore (note make sure you remove the floppy before rebooting! ) :)

WARNING whatever you had on the drive before will be completely overwritten so backup any important stuff to cdrs before starting this whole process of reinstalling from NERO'S HD backup :)

let me know how you get on :)

OK. I copied nrestore.exe onto another floppy and I get the same
error message.

"Could not open messages file: nres_eng.msg"

hmmmm have a look and see if the nres_eng.msg file is in the nero folder and copy that across to the floppy too :)

I found it in the nero folder :)

use find files and search for nres_eng.msg

Try updating to the latest version of the MSI.EXE program from Microsoft.
Below is a link for Windows 95/98 and ME systems: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/release.asp?releaseid=32831.
Then give it another try after you've installed and rebooted your PC.
PS:You may have an out dateded installer or damaged one at this time.

excellent another satisfied customer ... erm member lol :D:D:D

i use NERO HD RESTORE myself on my 3.2Gig windows boot drive :)

takes me 5 cds :)

lol thought about my 20 gig dump drive and then decided that 31 cds was a little too many lol i just backup what i need from there instead lol :)

anything over 20 gig i think i will not even think about lol ;)

but for 6 gig or less nero restore is pretty good as you can make the backup within windows and it backs up and restores everything as you already know bop :D
