Problems With LG 52X24X52

I got this drive a week or so ago and I am having problems.

I Have tried Burning with Nero 5.5.10.7 and it says Cd Completed at 52X but it takes 5min 30secs to complete so I know Nero is full of S**t.
I Have Alcohol 120%1.4.0(Build 114) amd It basically burned a couple of CD's @52x But Now it wont GO Above 16.1X
Clone CD4.0.1.6 Does Exactly the Same..Both Alcohol and Clone Are burning Images Made With Clone CD
NEro Is Just Burning Data From My hard Drive

I am running Windows XP Pro SP1 WIth a Clean Install onto a formatted Hard Drive

read this thread on how to hack the registery to get NERO'S true burn speed when burning :) >

http://cdrbase.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=27296&highlight=nero+burn+speed

Also a note here is that if you are using BURNPROOF then the disk is adjusted to match the dataflow so thus restricting the burn speed :(

Another note is it also depends on the media used sometimes even certified speed media fails to get to top burn speed :(

One last point it also depends on the usage of the computer at the time other apps running in the background and finally the fragmentation of your souce drive can also slow the burn process if badly fragmented :(

hope this helps :)

Ok Here are the things have tried..Steps taken so far

I de-fragged the hard drive..and on 120gig HD that takes a looooong time

I Installed aspi 4.6 Using Force Aspi
I uninstalled All burning Proggy's and Reinstalled Nero Only I have to use the latest Nero cause its the only one that supports my burner
I updated My IDE Drivers for My Mobo
I even installed The Version of Nero that came with the burner
I have tried 2 Different Types of Media So far Memorex Cool Colours 80 Min with support up to 52X and Optimum (my wife got these for me) 80 Min with support up to 48X
I stopped everything elses running apart from nero , even turned my cable modem off

One thing though I checked under my secondary IDE channel settings just to make sure DMA was enabled (The Burner is Installed as Secondary Master with My cd reader and HDD being SLave and Master Respectively on the Promary Channel)

Anyway it is set for DMA if available but is showing PIO Mode as the Current Transfer Mode

As an extra note I changed my registry amd basically Nero Starts to burn at 20X then Drops to 16X

Scanss

disable "Buffer underrun protection" and "Optimum Writespeed Control" in Nero > Menu > Recorder > Choose Recorder > your Recorder > Options

Greetings from
Duracell

Couldn't Post a reply yesterday as I couldn't access the forum, But the drive was screwed I took it back and replaced it with a Cebdyne 52X24X52X that is working perfectly, burning a full cd in 2min 20 secs

Thanks for all your help guys

I had a look and Nero is reporting it as an Asus but I think it is the Liteon, I just think I have had a firmware update..As long as it burns pretty good I dont care I only paid $69.95 with a $30
rebate so it was damn cheap

I think my system might be screwed somewhere, The new burner worked fine for a few cd's and then when I tried to use it tonight to burn an image with alcohol it would only burn at 16x...I dont know if this makes any difference but I did install NTI CD Maker Plat and uninstalled it as well I then re-installed my aspi layer but that makes no difference at all

Sorry to ask but have you disabled the built in xp burning engine? If not do this right click onto burner go to properties then recording once there uncheck enable cd recording on drive I think it is and try once again.

Yup, have tried it both checked and unchecked:(

As an added note...and this happens whether "Flextralink"(Kool name for Bufferunder run protection) is enabled or not.

My read buffer stays up @99% or 100%
but
My Recorder Buffer dies a death, jumps down from 100% @ the start to then basically stay around the bottom 15%-20% with the occasional spike to 60%-75% (WHen it Spikes the speed will go upto 22X and then drop down to 16X when the buffer drops down

MY CPU Usage Bounces up to 100% and stays there while burning but my ram tends to stay with 500mb free while burning

Its not a Liteon its an Asus crw-5224a, I think maybe the flash memory might be F****D gonna try and update the firmaware and see if that helps

OK heres what I think happened and how I finally got it solved

Thanks to Blane I tracked down a firmware ugrade for the drive and upgraded. Fixed the problem..The Drive is an Asus CRW-5224a.

I tried to replicate what I done to screw the drive and I managed to screw it and repair by flashing the firmware.

Anyway the Drive light stays on during system boot and that is an indication that the flash memory has been damaged.

Here's what caused the problem in the first place..

F*****g Memorex Cool Colors 48X CDR's.

I used the orange one and the drive burned fine then when I tried to use the Blue one it would only burn at 16X and the drove was screwed again..I have done this a couple of times and it seems to just screw the drive..If anyone knows the reason for this then please let me know..and thanks again for all your help:D

I'm glad you have the problem solved. Last year I had the same problem with the lite-on 52x24x52x. It didn't work right until they came out with their first firmware upgrade and now the drive is fine.
