Hello,

i recently bought a pioneer dvr-107d burner and i flashed the firmware from 1.05 to 1.10, this is because they didnt work when it was 1.05 and used Nero 6.3.03 to burn a dvd movie from my harddisk to the blank laser 4x dvd-r, but i keep on getting power calibration errors. Should these dvds work? because they work on my friends pioneer 106d burner. I am runnig P4 2.8, WinXP Pro SP1, 512 ddr400, Nero 6.3.03, 120 gb HD. With ASPI 4.6 installed from forceaspi. But the laser website says the burner is compatible with the blank, but it not work.
Please help, Thanks

are you only having problems with those particular dvds? because if you are, then it's definitely some type of incompatibility with them, in which case you have little choice but to use other dvds.

yeah its only with this dvd, because the riteks and princo and hico and longtens work perfectly fine though. the princo is bad media has freezes and skips and the hico sometimes has it. only the longten and riteks dont have it. i thought the lasers will work since they work in all the pioneer burners since my friend has a 106d. So what dvd u recommend for use which is cheap and affordable and reliable? in Australia?

is prodisc good? Altera(Atera?) ?

thanks if you could help

i use ricoh dvd+r myself. you can see what's available for you to buy and then do a search here to see how others rate them. ritek dvd-r and ricoh dvd+r are probably the two most popular discs around (both are manufactured by ritek), and TY dvd-r are very good, but also very expensive.

I had a MSI DR8-A burner (which I can confirm is a crappy burner) with similar problems.

I bought a Memorex True8x model 3202 3269, and, wow, the difference is night and day.

I have had 100% perfect burns, perfect movies, using DVDDecrypter and DVDShrink and Nero 6 with this burner - burning on the inexpensive CMC-MAG media! I have made copies of the copies and they come back 100% good in all sectors when I run them through Nero scan disk utility.

I've also had 100% perfect burns on all other media (TDK, Taiyo Yuden, MCC).

If you want to burn on inexpensive media that other manufacturer's burners have problems burning on, give this a try. The money I "saved" buying the $133 MSI burner from newegg quickly turned to money lost on about 30 coasters and the 15% restocking fee I paid to return it. This Memorex awesome buner only cost $150 from BestBuy after the rebate.

By the way, I got perfect burns from the exact same files I had ripped to my hard drive that the MSI made coasters of.

This is a GREAT burner (it is not the same Memorex True8x on sale for less at newegg, however. That one ships with Roxio crapware. This one ships with Nero 6 Ultra. Maybe the software is the only difference, but I don't know that).

I use the Ritek dvd-r 4x and DataBank dvd-r both on my 107 without a hitch. The Databank (made by GigaStorage) are a bit cheaper than the Ritek. I can even burn them at 6x no problems as well (with the hacked firmware).

Laser is also just an importer, they get their supplies from the absolute cheapest source possible and change suppliers every time the wind changes, you get what you pay for. I'm convinced they only ever sell B or C Grade media anyway, same as back in the CDR days. As yopu will see here time and time again, cheap media never works out cheap in the long run. You want reliable media and the 2 above are what I've ended up settling for. Good price, good burner compatability and always flawless playback.
