:confused:

Hi everyone,

I just recently bought a NEC ND-2500A OEM from Ebuyer. Its my first DVD player and was intended as a replacement for 4x LG CD-RW. I've taken the old CD-RW and installed the NEC using the same cable/leads.

However, once i re-started Windows XP, the computer didn't seem to identify the NEC DVD writer. I've tried to manually locate it through 'Add hardware' facility with no luck. I thought the cable may have been poorly connected and re-installed the drive again..no luck either? Nero express, windows explorer and my computer couldn't locate the drive either.

Am i doing something wrong? Muchos grazzias for any help/advice.

Welcome. Did you check to make sure the jumper on the back of the NEC is set right? Also does your bios see the drive? Its sounds like a jumper problem to me.

Many thanks for the warm welcome and advice PC-Guy and Serger.

Having not installed a drive before...i'm a bit uninitiated to finer elements of installation. Will give it a go as adviced.

Make sure the jumper setting is correct (for master/slave operation), and that both the IDE ribbon and the power plug are securely connected to the drive.
When your computer starts the BIOS should "see" and report the drive as physically present.

Hi guys,

I've had some luck withn the jumpers and the drive and appears as expected. However, i seemed to have gained myself another set of problems...

I've got Nero Express version 5.5.5.9 and i think it only recognises it as a CD/RW rather than a DVD RW. It only allows me to select Image Recorder (CD/RW) as an option.

A colleague tells me that means the software hasn't recognised it...is this correct?

Is Nero express incompatible with the drive i have or could it be another problem?

What is a good DVD writing software out there that i can download from net?

Many thanks for any suggestions.

Thanks guys, i've managed to install upgrade Nero 5.5 to version 5.5.10.55. Its seems to have done the trick and the software recognises the drive.

My next challenge is to burn my first DVD. I thought Nero would be sufficient, however, reading some of the links it seems to require a bit more than that.

As recommended in some places, I've managed to download DVD Shrink 3.1.7 and DVD Decrypter 3.2.2.0 which are recommended and required in addition.
Unfortunately, i don't have any idea how to make use of them yet and in which order.

I would be grateful if someone could give me a quick idiots guide to burning a DVD.
I've got a little young'un who unfortunately has already managed to destroy couple of my priced DVD's...hence, reason d'etre for buying a DVD writer. If i wanted to make back-up copies of my DVD's, would i be able to copy my original DVD's or would they become encrypted if i tried?

Any suggestions/advice would be much appreciated.

Nero suffers for burning DVDs but not for ripping & copying;
PC-GUY pointed already in the right direction, to our tutorials;
