Problems extracting the goodies out of vob files?

I have ripped a number of DVD's directly to my HD by using "smartripper". I assumed (incorrectly) that I would be able to extract various extras out of them later by using the same program. I was also hoping to rip the main movie from the files as well.

The problem is that neither smartripper or DVDdecrypter will allow me to load the vobs so I can process them.

Does anybody know of a program that will let me do this?

Thanks in advance,

Adam

BTW the files play fine in WinDVD

I've been trying to do the same lately (although I am a complete noobie at this) and have found that if I load the files into DVD2AVI, I can edit the start and finish position of each movie.

This "appears" to work OK even if it is a bit long winded...

I'm sure one of our VCD gurus will tell us the correct way ;)

To further process the DVD files off your HD I have found you MUST rip the WHOLE DVD, every file, to do what you want to do, not just the main VOB's.

The EXTRAs your talking about are not normally in the main set of movie VOBs but as their own VOB set.

With SmartRipper, it normally defaults to "Movie" mode to allow you to rip the main movie or select other extras, even Stream Processing. But if you want to select additional files, then just click the "Files" button and now you can select what ever file you want (but with no Stream Processing)

Oh well - there go my extras then :(

One of the movies I ripped was a DVD5 (4.7 gig). Normally if it's a DVD9 (9gig) then I have to encode it anyway and the vobs load nicely into DVD2SVCD. However I don't need to re-encode the DVD5 one I did. I just need to extract either the mpv+ac3 out of it or the mpeg file itself.

Any ideas?

ImgTool_0.99.5 says it can recreate the missing VIDEO_TS.ifo file for you then but I havnt tried it yet ! Also VobEdit 0.6 - (VOB editing utility, can split, demux, remux and join VOB files) could be a usefull tool. I would look at joining all VOBs to 1 big VOB then demux it to mpv and ac3, then just re-author. Get then both from doom9.net download page.

Both ImgTool_0.99.5 and VobEdit 0.6 errored out.

However, thanks to Chickenman's advice (as usual) I have solved the problem by using "vStrip". It allowed me to extract both the *.mpv & *.ac3 files out of the vobs. I then put them in spruce and re-made the image and it's ready to burn now :)

If anybody would like a copy of vStrip (along with the GUI) then drop me a pm and I'll email it to you. It's not very big (300k) and it's freeware :)
