O.K. I think I know what's going on here now.
The Safedisc version in question is checking two things:
1) It check for weak sectors
2) It checks for ATIP
I looked up your TEAC drive on CloneCD website and it does not write regular bit patterns (EFM) correctly. Thus your drive is NOT Safedisc2 compliant. AWS (amplify weak sectors) is a work around for non compliant SD2 drives, but it DOES NOT work in all drives.
What is happening is that some writers (Plextor mainly) can at least read the copy they've made...so the copy will run in the writer, BUT NOT in any other CD-ROM (CDR/W included). This was mainly a phenomenon before AWS though.
I think that this is your case. Your TEAC is passing the weak sectors check, because it wrote them. And when you have the Hide CDR Media option on it is passing the ATIP check.
But, as you have noticed, this CDR will not play in any other CD drive because your TEAC failed to write the weak sectors correctly.
Since you said it installs without problems on any drive, just use a NoCD crack or use Daemon tools to emulate SD2 when you play it.
Don't feel bad though Safedisc2 is the hardest copy protection to date. BTW, I use NoCD cracks all the time as I hate putting the disc in every time I play. Plus, the game starts faster!
