Problems copying Undying

has anybody ever seen this frickin thing?!!? i made the image with clone cd and used betablocker on it, but when i burned it, it didnt recognize the disc as the game disc. i could install it, i just couldnt play it with the burned copy. i dont even have a clue where to go from here. i would assume its a safedisc2 which normally isnt a problem. i copied civilization, and it works with no problems at all. anyway, i have a TEAC CD-W58E and im pretty sure i should be able to copy this disc. any help would be cool. thanks everyone.

Its an older version of Safedisc 2.

So if your drive is SD2 compliant, it should copy just fine. If its not then use the AWS option when burning. Also don't use your CDR to play the game as CD Check is looking for ATIP.

Or since its already installed, just use a NoCD crack to remove the CD check and be done with it. Try h**p://www.gamecopyworld.com for the crack.

Well, I copied it in the same manner I used to copy Civ III, and to do that, I made the image and used beta blocker on it and then burned it. So, should I try it again without using beta blocker on the image?

One more thing I need to point out. I am aware that when I play the game it should be able to work in any cd- or dvd-rom drive, but it doesnt. However it will play in my cd-rw drive as long as I have the Hide CDR Media enabled. So that just makes me wonder if I must have done something wrong. Now, I understand that I can get the crack and i know it should not be a big deal since I can play it in my rw, but I would really like to be able to make a working copy of the disc playable in any drive.

Remember that I said that this is an older version of Safedisc2, so the settings for Civ3 may well be different. This game is over a year old now and Civ3 is using a different Safedisc version.

I burned several copies of Undying for friends about a month ago with my Plex8432, which is not Safedisc 2 compliant without AWS. I extracted with CloneCD ONLY (no betablocker) default settings and burned with AWS enabled.

It works fine in 2 different CD-Rom and 1 DVD-Rom devices without problem. CD check recognises the disc and it plays great. It will not play in any of our CDRW drives unless we enable CloneCD hide CDR media.

However it will play in my cd-rw drive as long as I have the Hide CDR Media enabled
Hide CDR Media enabled is doing its job by hiding the ATIP of your CDR copy (reading ATIP is a copy protection). There is no way around this (that I know of), except pressing your own disc or putting it in a non ATIP reading drive like a CD or DVD-Rom.

Why it is not playing in YOUR CD or DVD is probably related to beta blocker (but I'm not 100% sure as I don't need or use it).

Try burning again as suggested and post again if it does not work.

I tried it again, and used the AWS option, but still no luck. I was under the impression, however, that AWS in CloneCD was supposed to do about the same thing as beta blocker does. Is that wrong?

I was actually suprised to find that it did play with the Hide CDR Media option on. The first time I tried copying Civ, I was able to play it in the same manner, and it wasn't until I tried it with beta blocker that I could actually play it in any drive. It all seems very strange to me. I am positive that I should be able to copy this game with my RW and I am unsure as to why I have been unable to do so. I know that they use different safedisc settings and all, but it puzzles me at to why this doesn't work now.

I'm thinking that I may try it one more time without using beta blocker or AWS. I don't have a clue as to whether or not this may work, but if you have any other suggestions, I would love to hear them. Thanks.

I just tried it again, but I still got basically the same result. So, I'm open to any suggestions right about now.

O.K. I think I know what's going on here now.

The Safedisc version in question is checking two things:
1) It check for weak sectors
2) It checks for ATIP

I looked up your TEAC drive on CloneCD website and it does not write regular bit patterns (EFM) correctly. Thus your drive is NOT Safedisc2 compliant. AWS (amplify weak sectors) is a work around for non compliant SD2 drives, but it DOES NOT work in all drives.

What is happening is that some writers (Plextor mainly) can at least read the copy they've made...so the copy will run in the writer, BUT NOT in any other CD-ROM (CDR/W included). This was mainly a phenomenon before AWS though.

I think that this is your case. Your TEAC is passing the weak sectors check, because it wrote them. And when you have the Hide CDR Media option on it is passing the ATIP check.

But, as you have noticed, this CDR will not play in any other CD drive because your TEAC failed to write the weak sectors correctly.

Since you said it installs without problems on any drive, just use a NoCD crack or use Daemon tools to emulate SD2 when you play it.

Don't feel bad though Safedisc2 is the hardest copy protection to date. BTW, I use NoCD cracks all the time as I hate putting the disc in every time I play. Plus, the game starts faster!

First, I just want to say that I really do appreciate all of this. You are being a really big help to me.

Second, I'm still having problems understanding exactly whats going on here. I do know what you are saying, but if Undying is an older version of Safedisc2 than Civilization III, and I was able to copy Civ III, shouldn't I be able to copy Undying? Because I was able to make a working copy of Civ III that I could play in any cd-rom, and it seems odd to me that I can't for Undying. Anyway... I guess it may be possible that this whole thing is just impossible, but I figured I might as well try. Thanks again.

No problem for the help.

Yaa I know it weird that you can copy a newer copy of SD2, but can't copy an older one. Sadly thats just the nature of SD2 when your drive is not SD2 compliant. Just because you can copy one version, does not mean you can copy all.

You have tried the right things (enable AWS and BetaBlocker), so I wouldn't sweat it. Just use a CD Check crack and be done with it. I even have the crack if you want it.

BTW, Undying is an excellent FPS game. One of my fav's! Play this baby with headphones if you can. How many games can you play that give you chills up your spine!

If you like the game and want more maps, there is a smalll but growing community @ h**p://www.3dactionplanet.com/undying/

Have fun!
