Problem with xp pro

I have a major problem with winxp pro in that it will boot up but when you click on a user it starts to load that users settings it then beeps and seems to stop. Mouse pointer moves so it has not crashed!
I have tried F8 and all the methods ie safe mode, last good config but still the same.
Whats worrying is that I changed my bois to let me boot from cd to try and repair winxp but that did not seem to work it just looked at the drive but loaded from the c drive. The system will let me read from a floppy! It sounds to me as some sort of virus but I'm no expert any ideas? If it is a virus can anyone point me in the direction of a removal tool that will fit onto a floppy.

update- problem sorted.

Thanks for the input unforunatly I had tried that the system did not respond to a boot up with the cd in even when the bios had been changed so it booted cdrom, c, a. It always booted from c my main hd with windoze on it. I did manage to sort it but not in the way I would have liked. I tried using the boot disks downloaded from MS as this is the only way I could get control. I tried a repair but that just rebooted and tried to access the system which you could not enter I tried to re-install the windows directory which it said I could do but this did not work, in the end I had to formate the drive and re-install windoze. Anyway I have not claimed back some of my hd so some good has come out of this NOT! :mad:

Sometimes if U have 2 CD devices on the same IDE cable then u cant boot from cd, i had that prob & solved it by disconnecting my old cd rom & just leaving the burner on it, then U can reattach the other device :)

Hi banzibaby,
I do have two cd drives but they are on differnet cables one is a master and the other is slave. When a cd was put in the drives did light up the led to say it was reading but then just stopped.
